This rumour about Blake seems to have zero traction anywhere apart for some wishful thinking on here. It seems to have little substance because other outlets will have been all over it, if it were true.

It's a small blurb at the moment about the GM of a team nobody cares about. I guess it really matters how much stock you put in TG on this board since he mentioned it prior to last week.

Even then, the amount of wishful thinking regarding it seems pretty low. I'm not even clamoring for it and would be very surprised if he was fired: not as shocked if he decided to do something else though.

Staples is reputable, which is why I was so shocked no one expanded on that.

The thing is even the writer just glossed over it, almost in passing. If they had any real belief in it, beyond a simple rumour, they’d have made a much bigger deal of it. Surely? I mean if you think you’ve got the scoop on that info it’s pretty big news, and you would want to be seen as the person that broke it. It feel like throwing something out there to see if anything sticks. If it does, then lots of back slapping ensues and if not then it’s easily dismissed as something that wasn’t all that meaningfully the first place.

Blake stepped in and thought he had a contender. Just needed a coaching change since these guys were burned out from Sutter. While I didn't think they were a solid Cup contender, I was on the record that they would be better in '18 just because they were happy that Sutter was gone and they had something to prove.

They were better. They made the playoffs. We've all had the arguments about the quality of the team heading in to 2019 and they fall on glass half-full or half-empty lines: Blake was a half full guy. Glass was actually nearly empty, however.

Blake didn't sign up for a long-term rebuild. The idea that he wanted to do so from the start but was meddled with by Luc or AEG is based on nothing but wanting to make Blake look good. Rebuilds are not fun and, I imagine, especially not for competitive ex-players. It's fun for Lombardi because he's all about building something but that doesn't mean Blake enjoys it.

If his deal was only for three years, maybe he just wants to move on to some other role in the organization that is less labor intensive. Like, what if he just hates his job? Shit...I hate watching them and I'm paying to do so v. the other way around.

I don't think a successful rebuild hinges on retaining Blake or Robitaille. I would much prefer a search for a hockey executive who has a proven track record of building something from the ground up, preferably with some past success of developing younger players. That man could be Hextall, but he isn't necessarily the best choice. I simply think he would be better than what is currently being employed by the Kings.

For the life of me I don't understand why AEG is so enamored with putting ex-players, who never won a damn thing when they were playing for the Kings, in executive positions.

did I miss something, where is all the Blake leaving talk coming from...wishful thinking?

Isles beat writer Arthur Staple mentioned it in passing in an article last week. Bernstein has apparently been running with it a bit.

TG on this board alluded it to it as well prior to Staple.

You mileage varies regarding how you judge those that are talking about it, but Staple isn't necessarily a lightweight.

It's not exclusive to AEG, it's a plague across the league. Let's put a guy that barely graduated High School as the VP of hockey operations! Brilliant!
Especially when the only class they paid attention in was tea with Ms. McGill.

Blake should commemorate this transaction by swinging a similar trade. Unfortunately, nobody on this roster who is realistically available would garner such a return.

if all this rumbling about Blake stepping down does come true this deal will be the best thing he did as a GM. was a very very good deal for LA.

It would just be really strange to see Blake step down after all his leadup to this role. He worked with the league and as AGM for a bit--why step down as GM? Kick Futa up? Go back to AGM? It's just weird.

I agree with you @Statto that if it had any real legs it may be bigger news, but why would there even be smoke enough that it's publicly known as a rumor to even beat writers? How does that get out of the org? It's just strange news if nothing else.

To be fair, Lombardi never won a cup either before being hired w/Kings.

However he’s had a track record of good drafting and building competitive teams. It’s easy to see why he was hired, he spoke like he knew what he was talking about very convincingly and you knew he was the man with a plan.

I get the total opposite with Blake. Doesn’t have a plan, doesn’t go in depth where players fit in his vision for the Kings. If he’s stepping aside or away, I’m guessing it’s because A.) He knows this franchise will suck for a long time. B.) he’s not enjoying being the guy in charge of this disaster. Just like he didn’t enjoy playing in LA on those garbage teams in the 90s and in his second stint 2000s. C.) realizes he’s not the guy the Kings need to climb out of this mess.

I guess not trading prospects and draft picks and restocking the cupboard with prospects and young players is not having a plan. No bias at all with these one sided takes.

where did this rumbling about Blake steeping down start?
I still haven't seen it anywhere

I don't know...and I still never saw or figured out what happened to Doughty...I would never watch an all star game and only had about 5 minutes
to read stuff yesterday....work got in the way....so I spent 5 minutes searching for what happened to Drew - searches and 3 sites and a Google
query even...and don;t know still, weird...but can find 800000 posts about DL vs Blake. IN 45 words or lees, what happened to Drew?
(still trying to close a $7000 sale and dont have time for searching anymore)

Arthur Staples, an Islanders writer gathered thoughts from an unnamed executive from another team to discuss player’s who are available at the deadline. In discussing Toffoli, said executive made passing mention that he’s heard Blake may step aside, but who knows about the validity of it. Could be a similar situation as with Vegas and George McPhee taking on a bigger role and passing the GM duties to Kelly McCrimmon.

So why didn’t Dean do that when the glory days were far behind?

He still believed the team was a contending team with the core in place. A mantra the current FO repeated several times after DL’s ouster as you know.

You guys would ***** if Blake did that, and ***** when Blake is rebuilding. “He has no plan” you say, and this is what you come up with when someone pokes holes in your biased viewpoint
.

Whats the plan? Can you tell me what Blake said about what kind of style and team this will be in the future?
