I believe this is KINGS17’s favorite signing in LA Kings history.

Its just a shame that Blake and Luc didn't have the pull to get him to commit to the kind of deal Backstrom just got.

Imagine the haul the Kings could have raked in if Anze was a year away from free agency instead of rotting on the vine on a bottom dweller while having absolutely zero impact on his teams chances...

You think that extra $800,000 that Kopitar is earning is that bad?

It's not equivalent, because Backstrom's contract starts at age 32.
Not saying it's equivalent, just saying his point was that if Kopitar had signed a 5 year deal back then he'd have 1 year left and could be traded for a haul. Of course if Kopitar was a perennial 200 point player the Kings would probably have 5-6 cups by now. So much for what if.

Yeah not at you in particular, just saying it out loud. A 28-year-old Anze Kopitar is getting full term from whomever he damn well pleases, that's got nothing to do with Blake's "pull," and it would be the same for a prime Backstrom.

There's a pretty thick line between good-faith player discussion and nonproductive taunting. We're done crossing it in here.

It should be more like lamenting the blow jobs you never got because the girl didn't want to go out with you and had to file a restraining order after you started to leave her creepy voicemails.

That was a long time ago. I’ve worked through all those issues and I’d appreciate it if you’d stop bringing it up.

Still waiting for the Kings to win a second playoff game before Kopitar's contract ends.

28 year old Kopitar isn't signing a 5 year deal like the 32 year old Backstrom just did.

Beyond this being a nonsensical comparison, Lombardi is the one who signed Kopitar to his contract. At least complain about things that actually happened when whining about BLuc.

Real-Time Update on the Kopitar Contract Negotiations

True, Dean was on the right track, then he second guessed himself.

Just to be clear, you would be OK with Kopitar if he had a 9.75 million cap hit?

Because that was the "right track" you are speaking of from your link. According to the Mayor, Lombardi was at 9.75 by 8 years with the same protections and discussed with his inner circle and moved to 10 million.

You are seriously pissed off about .25 million in cap hit?

He moved up to $9.75M, then he sought out Blake's advice. So, I guess you could say he triple-guessed himself. Prior to that Dean said they weren't even in the same ballpark.

Anyway, I think the experience involving these types of deals illustrates they are a mistake. Toews and Kane big mistake. Kopitar mistake. Doughty, not looking too good so far.

So, first BLuc were blamed despite not signing the contract. Then they were blamed for moving Lombardi .25 million higher on the cap. Now they are being blamed for Lombardi "triple-guessing" himself?

It just seems like reaching.

Panarin, Malkin, Crosby, Draisaitl, McDavid, O'Reilly, Eichel, Ovechkin, Kucherov, Rantanen are all examples of big contracts that are not mistakes. Also, Patrick Kane has 110 points last season and has 60 points in 48 games this season. How is that a bad contract?
