Also I feel for Drew at ending with those minuses because he was a god damn force last night, particularly defensively when we were in lock down mode. Watch the last few minutes again. Dude single handedly diffused their entries and made amazing plays to get the puck back out every single time. He was constantly either challenging the puck carrier and disarming him casually, or waiting in the perfect spot for the dump in, basically looked like a pass from a Jet to Doughty every time.

MacDermid played 14+ minutes last night too, and never once looked out of place. He even jumped up into the rush and took the puck deep in the offensive zone twice. Have we found our #6 defenseman?
he does constantly look a half step behind skating but that kinda comes with the territory of being 6'5.. personally i've been really impressed with his stick on defense and willingness to shot block. also one of the few defenders i see that constantly has his head on a swivel so he's clearly thinking about his positioning

i'd like to see him bump up the physicality on the boards a bit but he's absolutely a bottom pairing NHL defenseman from what i've seen

There is something to be said for intimidation. The whole fear for your life thing has been removed from hockey but I think MacDermid keeps things calm out there.

We very well could have. The biggest struggle he had was keeping up and getting caught out of position. He's really made strides in that area. His effort, of course, can never be questioned. He's one of the hardest workers by all accounts. I'm really impressed with his growth this year, he doesn't look nervous or lost at all like he did in his previous starts.

Matchups are still going to matter. The Jets are slower compared to most teams, and rely on their size more. This is why he went from a 48% CF and even in a 4-1 win against the Flames to a 62% CF and a +1 in a closer 3-2 game. He's going to have problems against fast teams, that's just how it is. Is it worth it to have him out there though if it leads to the occasional goal against? Is he doing better out there than Ryan? I think the answer to both of those leans towards yes. TM isn't the type of coach to bench you after a mistake, he'll show some confidence in you and help you grow, which I think is making Mac more relaxed.

We are going to see Ryan and Mac platooning I'm sure. Ryan actually looked good against Nashville and Vegas, not so much against Carolina and Buffalo. But it sure is nice to have some options. The most interesting thing is to see what happens when Forbort comes back (take your time, Derek). Hutton isn't a world beater, but he's looked pretty good next to Doughty so far.

absolutely

that's why i want him to bump up the checking cause he's the type of dude that can blast someone in open ice and fend for himself when the fight comes. i'm still not exactly sure he wants that cause he's so well known as being a teaching sponge and appears to be interested in actually becoming a better defenseman, but it's something he's good at

Good game, Quick's glove hand still has too many error's in it for my liking saw a couple there he should have snatched and held it, and yet the puck would tumble to the ice.
But Quick settled pretty well overall

Pretty true but he's made some big strides in the last week. And let's not forget WPG has some absolutely elite shooters. Connor, Laine railing one timers, Schiefele...

"Cops said the suspect confessed he’d done “stupid stuff” and that he had “nutted” on the Olaf doll."

nice.

I think people haven't really taken MacD seriously because of his lack of foot speed. It was just sort of assumed that he couldn't be a quality NHL regular, but he looks pretty good to me.

Skating is just one attribute. You don't have to be a great skater to be a decent player.

Plus in this day and age with all these smaller players, I love having at least one big nasty mofo like Macdermid on the roster. Love his size and mean streak.
