Finally watched the game. Fairly evenly played game, considering our opponent. Quick was quite good when he had to be.
I think it's worth seeing what a healthy Forbort looks like in this system.

People saying he's not a partner for Doughty have a fair argument.

People saying he's a healthy scratch are out to absolute lunch.
This is indeed the right way to look at this. Forbort was clearly number 2 at D inside the blue line. His (in)ability to move the puck in the current system will define his future with the team.

I think Hot Toddy and his staff have done wonders with the D corp, especially Roy.
We haven't got to see Forbort play with the new coaching, but that being said , I would showcase him and move him the first chance I get

I think we should see what Forbort can do in the system we have. He won't have much trade value until he can prove his back issue is completely healed so he would have to play anyway.

I have very low expectations for Forbort. Even if he's a tad better defensively than MacD I'd rather have MacD because Forbort is softer than shit.

Nevertheless I'm proud of this team in general. With our roster being as bad as it is, and all the blue chip prospects we have awaiting to join the team. They will tear up the league when they're all in. If we get a good pick this year too then the future is very bright.

Forbort playing 20 minutes a game was the issue. If he comes back and plays around 15 minutes, I think he’s probably a better option than Ryan. Given the huge drop off in talent after Doughty, the best thing to improve the team D is spread the minutes around evenly. They’ve put Lizotte, Kempe and Wagner out there consistently and all of them are producing collectively almost every game in this recent good stretch.

I’d have to see Forbort in the new system, once he’s up to speed to give a fair assessment on that. However, I’d say Ryan and MacD for sure, Hutton maybe, possibly even AMart whose play before injury had really tanked.

I completely agree with the view he’s a bottom pairing guy on a contender btw, but I do think #7 is a touch harsh. We are just over rating the majority of our blue line. The system protects our left sided D, which along with Walker and Roy really stepping up has made the left side guys look better than we expected.

If and when Forbort comes back in, he will need to be given time before we can fairly assess how he looks in the new world. I’d still trade him at the earliest opportunity as he doesn’t fit long term no matter how good he looks once he’s back. However it won’t be reasonable to start posting ‘see, I told you he’s a bust’ 2 games into his comeback. I know you won’t be able to stop yourself though . Sorry, I’m just playing...

I’ve seen a number of comments suggesting Forbort has had a significant back issue for 2-3 years. Is that actually true or speculation? It seems unlikely to me that he’s have been allowed to play through such a problem, especially once the rebuild was underway.

Rob Blake suggested in an interview earlier this season he played all of last season with a back issue. Also, Forbort missed all but the last game of training camp two years ago. Nobody paid much attention I guess. Then played 81 games with only missing one because Stevens made him a healthy scratch just prior to being fired. The year before they made the playoffs but he got hurt near the end of the season. Not a back injury though. So, it does suggest he had some sort of problem.
