Hayes will be too expensive, no thanks.
Get a cheaper option and one that has more speed.

he really struggled to get going in the playoffs..not sure what exactly happend as Connor- Hayes - Ehlers was a strong line after the deadline when they got Kayes, then at some point in the playoffs the blender happened and Kayes was on different lines with little results. he looked a shell of himself during the playoffs - possibly playing through an injury or just simply lost his drive/fire..he wasn't alone as much of the Jets fizzled out as well..I would be very leery of 6x6 for him as his play away from the puck which is normally decent looked almost non existent in the playoffs..Need to do more research. Why was his TOI in the playoffs 11:59?
If we could even just give away AA and Hayes was only a million more I’d probably be fine with it.
It really doesn’t make sense how averse people are to signing FAs around here because we haven’t done it in awhile.
Look at it this way: you can buy an asset worth something for 1.25x what it’s worth and it costs you nothing but cap dollars.
Or
You can trade your assets for the right to pay someone what they are worth. So you are -picks prospects AND cap dollars
In the case of Hayes in Anisimov out: you can pay Hayes 1.25 what he’s worth and then trade anisimov for assets to recoup that and have the better player.
Hayes is a no brainer yes for me. Love the player, love the fit, and we can deal anisimov and get something decent for the trouble.
We already have one center (Strome) who is a sub-par skater - I don't want another one by acquiring Hayes. I'm not saying Hayes is a poor skater - but he isn't quick/fast and if the idea is to be an aggressive forechecking team - we need more speed, not less.
On the other hand, Eric Haula, if healthy, would be a good fit.
Hayes wants the most money he can get and someone like philly will offer him something insane. The hawks hopefully back away after that happens. It really doesn’t make sense how averse people are to signing FAs around here because we haven’t done it in awhile.

We can get some players from Toronto if willing to take on a cap dump. i.e. Kadri/Kappenen+ Marleau and/or Zaitzev.Isn't this what happened last season? There was all this talk about signing free agents and then the price was too high and we were left with Kunitz, Manning, and Ward. Quite a few teams have a lot of cap space.
Don't get me wrong, I don't want to overpay and get stuck with another Bickell-esque contract but maybe the Hawks should focus their energy on improving their team via trades and a couple depth UFA signings. Or possibly offer sheet either Kapanen or Johnsson and give up a couple 2nd round picks.
A 34 year old who is 13th in scoring on his team in the KHL. Yeah sure...Marko Anttila should come to Chicago... There might be top 9 place for him?
I wonder if Stan could acquire Alex Nylander. Something involving Brendan Perlini and Gustav Forsling.
On board with acquiring a guy like Haula for a discount than giving Hayes multiple years at a high cap hit...
This I like; having said that I can't think of how perfect Danault would have been in previous years and moving forward
Toews
Strome
Danault
Kampf
That would have been stellar. down the middle...
