Lias Andersson, C, New York Rangers: “He's a warrior,” said one NHL scout when talking about Andersson. I have my questions about his upside as a prospect from watching him all season and at this tournament, but he showed some nice things here. He wins a lot of battles, has good IQ and decent hands, and despite playing hurt, he fought his way to being a useful player.

Pesan confirmed to Czech media he was invited to the Rangers prospect camp

I'm pretty sure he was there but I can't find anything confirming he was

He was there.

Liberecké duo je na misi u New York Rangers. Uspěje v zámoří?

Hey props though to that Slovakian team. They were quite a game bunch. They should be proud of the effort they put in this tournament.

Aside from the game against Canada, this was very good tournament for us. We were able to keep up with very talented USA, Finland, Sweden teams which was not the case in recent years. It was really nice to see and just a confirmation that very good U18 WCH was not just a fluke and we have some really solid young players there.

Is it a coincidence that both Czech and Slovak junior teams are doing better?

In my opinion, yes. Czechs are producing some really good prospects lately ( Chytil, Necas, Zadina, but you can also count Pastrnak) and they seem to be on the right track ( regarding development of players) again. We (Slovakia) do not have a prospect near as good as those mentioned above. Also, this team consisted of 1998,1999- born players and these age groups (mostly '99) are considered as the best we produced in quite some time. Unfortunately, from what I read, there does not seem to be positive trend and 2000- born and younger kids do not look very promising. So to sum it up, I think Czechs will continue to do well but I would be surprised if we performed as good as in 2018 beyond next year.

Great. You need a paid subscription to read it. PASS

Thats all it said about Andersson. It was small write-ups on a bunch of players for that day. Andersson was part of the section of Sweden's three best players at the tournament, which he was named to. He was recapping the play of those three players.

this is something that bothers the crap out of me....the guy has 6 goals in this tournament and is labeled as a "useful player"....hes SECOND in the whole tournament in goals while being injured, that seems more then just useful

Why? Derek Stepan led the entire tournament in points in 2010 and he's topped out as a useful two-way center.

It's really unfortunate that this game starts at 8. Work ends at 8pm, which means I won't be home until 9:30-10, so I'll basically miss the entire game lol.

Words. The only problem is that "useful two-way center" doesn't really mean anything because it can mean very different things to different people.

Stepan is much more than just "useful" in my eyes. Hoping Lias is as well.
