Nice to see a tournament where our Swedish players really went for the gold. Even if we were underdogs in semi and final all captain Lias kept saying was that nothing other than gold is important. Our history before : 2 gold and 10 silver medals and happy with being underdogs. A different mentality this year for sure if you compare with most of the years going 10 years back.

Therefore it's kinda nice to sit back here and see other countries people get salty on Lias and talk about "not classy". We have silver enough here in Sweden from WJC and just don't want it anymore. I'm totally fine with a country-captain like that. I rather have that than swedish media going on with "longest win streak in group stages". Swedish hockey is good enough for a change in attitude and what keeps us satisfied and I think the team and Lias (especially in all interviews) showed us that we are moving towards that new mindset.

Great tournament except from having an outdoor-game when it reduces the quality in the hockey itself as it did. Canada as always well worthy winners in a close final game. The final game was really good but I enjoyed Finland - Canada in the group stage the most I think. Now almost a year until the best tournament starts again :(

Probably the best post in the thread. Too bad we all have to wait another year for the World Juniors.

honestly the officiating could have been a little better, but it's not the refs fault that Sweden committed so many infractions, nor that Sweden couldn't score at ES/on their PP. You shouldn't rely on your PP to get goals

Seriously though, that was a great game. Better quality than the Canada-US final last year as there were far fewer mistakes.

The Swedish coach is a pretty cool dude, so calm.

I think aside from officiating one difference in this game was Sweden alot of times was trying to make the perfect play or make the flashy move. Nylander comes to mind but alot of guys were guilty. Canada as they showed on the GWG was trying to grind and get a goal anyway they could.

I thought Sweden played a great game, probably better than Canada. Killing 5 powerplays against a team that was >50% in the tournament is nothing short of incredible. Although the penalties probably did them in, they played aggressive in a tight game, I thought some were 50/50 calls and they didn't get the benefit on some of the 50/50 plays against them. I thought they were the best team coming into the tournament & I thought they played good enough tonight to win.

It was a great game, awesome to watch. Clearly the two best teams. Rasmus Dahlin was incredibly impressive in this game, I'm praying to the hockey gods he somehow ends up in Vancouver. (though not holding my breath)

For Canada Hart was a brick wall. First time in almost a decade they win without McDavid. Great accomplishment. I'm excited for next year, hopefully I'll be able to go to a game.

C'mon man.

Every call we got was fair. Maybe only 1, the dive by #25 was, questionable.

But you can't tell me with a straight face that the slash and broken stick with the game 2-1, wouldn't be called 99 times out of 100. The fact that it resulted in a turnover that led to a goal seconds later to put the game out of reach is mind boggling.

I can 100% empathize with Swedish fans on that one.

Except the game shouldve already have been 3-1 if not for a ref screwing up and costing canada a goal. I seriously cannot believe how many people are conveniently forgetting this when bringing up missed calls.

It's still the same.

More than the World Championships and World Cup, less than the Olympics.

I'd say on par with world champs, but otherwise I agree. It's just I'm a bit salty about 14 and 16 champs been downplayed. (while on the 5 year streak it was the most important thing ever...especially when canada sucked in torino olympics)

My memory is long, grrrr

The World Cup could have meant something but the NHL shot themselves in the foot, then severed the foot, covered it in oil, set it on fire and then threw it into a gorge.

The whistle that blew and then the puck came loose?

That was a great game between two teams worthy of the Final. Kind of an uninspiring tournament overall but the Final will go down as one to remember regardless of the result.

You have to manage an elimination game better than this as referees. Some of those 50/50 calls should have gone in Sweden's favor to balance the penalty count.

I'm certain if Canada was on the receiving end, we'd be ticked off.
There were some 50/50 calls that didn't get called against Sweden as well. You don't make calls to even things out. You call penalties based on the rules. Regardless of how many each team has.

And Canadian fans could complain they had a goal taken away with an overly horny whistle call. can you 100% empathize with that also?

I mean so what?........................we could all do this almost every game.

The thing to notice about all this non stop bullshit about reffing is that if you look it is ALWAYS the same group of guys who ALWAYS do the complaining and ALWAYS blame their losses on reffing. i mean...........in every f***in game, heck they even complain half the time when they win by 3 goals.

It's these same guys EVERY freakin time, that should say all you need to know about how reffing is handled around these parts.

Canada won, the game is bagged and tagged, it's over and they deserved to win.

Let them enjoy it and move on.

Lets hope there will be more audience next year. Idiotically high ticketprices were one thing, but really big disappointment in Buffalo and close regions nevertheless.
