Because he's a reliable bottom pairing D-Man. It's hard to protect yourself from an obvious dive. Ref should have taken Tkachuk.
Yeah, it was a dive. He has still been involved in a ton of goals against this tournament though. He cannot keep up with any team.

Americans diving all over the place now. Classy.

Nylander has been garbage this entire tournament, I don't know what you expected.

Pettersson by far the best forward for sweden so far. dahlin for defense.

Where's Nylander? Andersson? Sweden keeps playing a perimeter game. Go to the net, create something. Soderlund and Jonsson show more effort and heart than those two.

Thats why I prefer SHL over NHL
Having lived in Australia canada and Sweden id preder swede telly, but hockey isnt so big in Sweden so its not like the nation is into this behind the team. Maybe Olympics but not this. I prefer Tsn TV for this tourney. Hi Canada.

US has to use that size to get more shots in the middle of the ice. Clearly a bigger, stronger team so use that and pound them

I wish Sweden would employ a more optimistic coach that could have picked Boqvist instead. Lindström isnt a great defender with a speciality in defense, this is an average defender who is somewhat better at defending. I cant see him adding more value than having another defender that can play the first pass.

Moverare has been the best defensive player on the swedish team by a rather wide margin. Would say that Yamamoto has been creating a lot in the offensive zone.

It's a Swedish coach, of course he has to play his "they're terrible offensively, so they must be great defensively" players. Moverare and Lindström. They've been awful the entire tournament. There's about 8 defensemen back in Sweden better than them.

Solid start, I've seen MUCH worse starts against the US. Let's turn it up a gear in the 2nd.

Pettersson has been really good but he has to score on those one-timers eventually.

Don't know why Nylander looks so insecure all the time, flubbing passes left and right. He looked like a third year player last time, and this year it looks like it's his first tournament.

After the first few minutes I think Sweden has been the better team. A few great saves by Woll.

I'm gonna make that wild guess - first goal wins! ;p
Yah, it looks like Sweden got some momentum from that early power play, and used it to settle into the game a bit.

Duthie called Mittelstadt's performance the most dominant in several years at this tournament...

Big claim, but there might be a case. Still, Puljujarvi probably takes that title.

what are you talking about? Americans diving all over the place lol!

full stick around his waste...it is a penalty...Tkachuk drew the penalty, over acted, but that gets called 90% of the time in any league...I have seen million times worse than that, he out hustled the Swedish player to the puck, he got lazy and wrapped his stick in Tkachuk - penalty - simple as that

Best scoring chance of the period though.

Sarcasm bro

Ahhh! ;)

He's pretty motivated, saw an interview yesterday and he was PO'd at his last game. Think he wants to prove it tonight especially going against Mittelstadt and team USA.

Nylander has to be bumped down the lineup... head isn't in it. Would have been sweet for him to pot that PP goal but overall O goes to die on his stick this tournament.

Swedes need to push the play, force it and they'll draw more PP's as well which should work out well for them.
