RULE 98 – SCORING A GOAL/GOAL FRAME OFF
i. If a defending player displaces his own goal frame and the opposing
team scores a goal, the goal will be allowed provided:
1. The opponent was in the act of shooting prior to the goal frame
being displaced;
2. The referee determines the puck would have entered the goal net
had the goal frame been in its normal position.
ii. A goal will be awarded if a goaltender has been removed from the ice
for an extra skater and a teammate displaces the goal frame from its
normal position when an attacking skater is on a breakaway.
iii. The goal frame is considered displaced if:
1. Either of the two goal pegs is not in its respective hole;
2. It has come off one or both pegs;
3. One or both of the goal posts are not flat on the ice.
iv. For all other goal frames which do not utilize pegs, the goal posts
must be flat on the ice and on the goal line at the time the puck enters
the goal net for a goal to be allowed.
v. If the position of the goal net is altered in any way during game
action, play will be stopped if the goal net does not return to its normal
position. If the goal net returns to its normal position, game action
will continue.
vi. No goal will be allowed if the goal frame is displaced before the puck
crosses the plane of the goal line unless provided by Rule 98-i.
Read the rules, that's not a goal

I didn't think Thomas was amazing that period but he still managed to create several chances.

Guy is going to score a lot of points.

MacKenzie saying should have been no goal.....I tend to agree

Well yes it's not a matter of opinion. Only people who think it should cou t are people who don't know what the rules are or do not particularly care about rules (when it's for their benefit).

If Vesalainen had scored on the last shot that came after the period ended, and that would have counted anyway even though period was done before he scored, I'm guessing we'd be seeing some Canadian outrage as well. And I would join them in that outrage, I can't stand anyone getting unfair advantage out there. Not even my team

I hope rasmus dahlin has flawless tournament because if he doesnt, im going to talk only about his mistakes after tolvanen being attacked.

I don't understand the first goal. A representative of the officials should really come in and clarify. That shouldn't have been a goal, no matter how you spin it. Either it's the net getting dislodged or the goal scorer pushing Luukkonen back which ultimately led the puck across the goal line. It's either goalie interference or the net being dislodged. I don't see how there's a third option for that scenario.

Would like to see Canada spend more time with the puck 5v5 in the second, we haven't really established the cycle on them yet. Obviously taking 3 minors disrupts this so the other key is to stay out of the damn box.

I would also like to see Finns answering the physical play. I was a bit afraid of our forwards getting smashed, and so far it looks like that's the case. Wish we had guys like Rantanen and Hintz this year.

Hintz has newer been a physical player, but otherwise I agree. Team Finland should hit more, because there are guys capable of that kind of a play as well.

Well if you believe McKenzie, he said in the NHL that goal would have counted.

When I tried googling the rule the thing that came up most was the controversy in 2014 between the U S and Russia. It was then stated the rule would be changed to the same as the NHL. So maybe the rule changed in the last two years and McKenzie is quoting from an outdated version.

One would assume that this was the final factor in the decision.

This rule says the goal should have not counted. The net was dislodged by an offensive player, so not a case of Rule 98-i.

Canadian forwards need to hit the Finnish D a little harder next period. Especially Heiskanen and Valimaki.

The way I understand it now is that the plastic pipes that keeps the posts in the ice hadn't completely moved. That would explain the whole thing. Now whether I agree with that call is a completely different thing.

I just still think that
1) Referee finally makes the call the video referee tells him to
2) Video referee can review it multiple times and definitely should know the rules
so I don't think it is completely fault of referee

No the video ref should lose his job. He doesn't have the eyesight to figure it out from the obvious video evidence, he can't perform those duties. Too much at stake to let a blind man fly.

Just made a poll, go put your opinion on whether or not the first goal should have been allowed, and argue in the comments

You're missing the point. Finns cannot challenge the skating speed of Canada, which affects backcheck, forecheck, checking and overall availability of passing lanes.
It's very hard to play 'tough' when you're slower than the competition. Toughness, when you're only chasing the play ends up to pointless penalties.
