Zaitsev is player of the game for Russia. Loved his lame shots from the point, absolutely none of which went through.

Even when it was 5-2, it was a closer game than many were saying.

I don't think either of these teams are gold medal caliber but could probably play a qf spoiler role.

That Russian effort in the last 2 minutes was massive. But PP's decided this game. The Czechs took some needless penalties, but the Russian PP's were so static and predictable for the most of the game.
Great game for some Czech players, especially Nečas and Kurovský.

Some encouraging moments late in the game. I feel a bit better about that.

The Czechs are a good team.

Bragin should shuffle the lines.

Don't be distracted by the 2-minute shiny object instead of the 58-minute b*tch-slapping administered by the same Czech team that lost 9-0 to Canada a couple of days ago. This was certainly a humiliation for a Russian team that will now likely have to beat Sweden on the 31st in order to avoid the United States or Canada in the Quarterfinals, both of which will be driven on by frenzied home crowds. To me that just doesn't look good at all.

When your defense is that bad, you have to make up for it on the other end to have a chance to win. Your goaltending has to be sound, your offense brilliant and explosive, and your team has to exhibit toughness to have any hopes of winning. None of those descriptions apply to Russia this year. Especially the toughness part, as they really got pushed around by the bigger and more physically powerful Czechs, who met no resistance in their conquest. It was hard to watch the whole thing, but it looks like there are only 4 games left for this Russian team.

So is it the players who were being rested against Canada making the difference for Czechs, or jusr Russia not playing well?

Great effort in the last two minutes though.
I didnt watch the pretourney but Necas and Chytil looked definetely like gamechangers today. Needed to add that "no names" like Zachar, Kurovsky played very well. If 3rd and 4th line can keep up with others, we can have chance this year.

How did Sokolov look?I'm not expecting much from him but since he's the only wild prospect in tge tournament i figure i might as well ask.

He looked awful! Invisible except for trying to stickhandle through people and getting stripped of the puck. He is destined to be deep on the 4th line.

My pessimism is way beyond yours. I am so pessimistic that I don't even care enough to think ahead and anticipate matchups.

On the bright side at least we're not tied 1-1 with Belarus.

Edit: jinxed it

He sucks. But he's playing his off-wing with Abramov and Rubtsov.

Oh, that pain of Czech hockey if we are leading = we play "maintenance". Good slap in the face before next match. Overall good match, our best players did their job well (I mean mainly Nečas, Chytil and Zadina, defs looked a little bit confused sometimes), Kořenář had several very good saves. Pity refs didn´t see 3 or 4 Russian fouls. Kurovský should make it 6-2 and game over, but good lesson at the end of the match. We have to play till the end! And now Sweden, probably even harder opponent than Russians. Good luck boys. Nice fact is, that guys forgot about cruel preparation with Canada, where we played without 5 best players, many guys experienced such a match for a first time + 10 thousands home crowd did their job as well, I didn´t blame our team for that and I think nobody could blame them for that.

Who was Rubtsov with late in the game? Was that Manukyan and Kayumov? If so, they looked pretty good. I'd keep them together and put Abramov with Svechnikov. Drop Sokolov to the 4th.
