He couldn't and wouldn't.. and the WHL historically is the league the most like the NHL in terms of playing style. The point totals in the QMJHL aren't all that high this year because there isn't a lot of talent league wide there. It's a down crop for the Q.

I would argue the Q is starting to produce much better defencemen the last few years. Not top pairing guys, but NHL players nonetheless. A lot of teams have a stud or two on the backend, something we didn't really see in that league before.

The overrating of Zadina has begun now that people are convinced he's the Habs pick.

If you think he would have gone ahead of a 6'2 RH center with top line potential.. well, I don't know what to tell you

The Q is the league with the least talent, that's pretty much a fact, it's watered down unlike the OHL.
That’s true, mostly I think because the population it covers is much smaller (10.5M for the Q, 13M for the O and 11M for the W).

The Q and the W however are pretty much on par when it comes to producing NHL talent.

Don't see it. He's a tier below. You'll never get Glass from Vegas offering up Zadina.
I definitely think Glass, Pettersson and Heiskanen would have gone ahead of Zadina, but it's mostly due to position IMO. Stat-wise and overall skill level i think they're similar.

It's a case of when the prospects are similar, you go for more important position and need.

Zadina is a 30/30 guy who could hit 65 points a few season. Don't think he becomes much more, and he will need the elite center with him to get the 30+ goals.

With his shot and hands he can potential hit 40 in his peak seasons. But I 100% agree with you that he needs an elite centre.

So were back to having some nice complimentary pieces with nobody to set them up.

Probably why I'd go with Boqvist.

That's the vibe that I get from him as well, but it feels lazy. Like ''high octane offensive guy but not a super play maker? oh, he's a 30 30 guy.'' Watching some more games meow.

That's an elite piece to have though, 30/30 consistently is a top 10 winger.
DO you think he can be that on this team? Drouin plays too quick for Zadina's style IMO. A centre like Tavares would get the best out of Zadina. But we don't have that centre for him.

I feel WTK has pushed the "Zadina is meh" to the max these last few days, he's pretty far from that. He's better than any prospect the Habs have had in decades save for Galchenyuk and Price.

I never said he was meh. He's a goal scoring winger who's gonna need a play driver on his line. He doesn't rate up as high as Voracek, Hischier, Ehlers, MacKinnon or Drouin from their draft years. You would like to get more at #3.

I never said it was a bad thing to have a 30/30 guy.

My comment was rhetorical.

However, I believe you prefer some of the other options at the no. 3 slot. Maybe it was Boqvist but you're reticent on account of his concussions.

I don't really think there is a big difference. Whether it be Wahlstrom or Zadina, they will need that elite center to feed them to start scoring tons of goals. I would still be fine with Boqvist at 3, I'd just be more cautious with him.
