I like Merkley. His scoring chances generated stats are absurdly high, like there’s no other defenceman that is draft eligible that touches him in that department. But he leaves a lot to be desired in his defensive game and conpete level at times. If he makes it to the 2nd, a team with four selections in that round can take a chance on him.

N
#3 - Kotkaneimi/Dobson
#35 - Tychonick
#38 - Foudy
#56 - Zavgorodny/Khovanov
#62 - O'Brien/McBain
#66 - Merkley
#97 - Nordgren
#102 - Kurashev/Fonstad
#122 - X.Bouchard/Kotkov
#128 - Kondelik

If the Habs can acquire another 1st in a trade draft Dellandrea.

Neither Merkley or McBain will be around in the 60s.

It matters to me, that's why I asked. My non-evidenced based belief is that smarts can be improved upon, but likely the toughest skill to (unlike others - which are technical, physical and entirely possible to practice daily).

Like, there's also part of smarts that has to do with adapting to the speed of high level hockey, too.

Anyways, re: Kuznetsov, it's almost a joke how often the label gets put on Russian players. It's happening to Shafigullin and Kravtsov this year.
I don't disagree. But I think alot of it has to do with coaching, and sometimes it can come with experience. It's one of those things where teams need to do their homework, and interviews help. It's an aspect that we as fans who aren't in the rooms during interviews, and can't interview former coaches on, don't have all the information to properly form an opinion on, on a player to player basis.Regardless, I think Kupari is a very worthy mid-first gamble based on what I see on the ice.

Been watching some Jack Drury games over the weekend (vs Chicago Steel twice).
He makes a ton of clever plays out there and sees the ice really well. Vision is higher than your average bottom line C.

And Martin Reway looked like a great pick until his heart did him in. Apparently Merkley interviewed great at the combine, so I'm optimistic.
looked like a good pick, for a 4th rounder... Even before his heart issue, Reway still had questions marks, especially regarding his softness and defensive game...

he also turns the puck over alot, its easier to generate alot of scoring chances when you take more risks... He has insane creativity though..

Fun site, totally unrealistic though.

I took the Habs and made a few trades, leaving with:
8. Noah Dobson
27. K'Andre Miller
38. Jonny Tychonick
40. Jonatan Berggren
56. Liam Foudy
62. Jakub Lauko
66. Blake McLaughlin
87. Ivan Morozov
97. Philipp Kurashev
102. Oscar Back
121. Scott Perunovich
128. Ruslan Iskhakov (he's ranked insanely low for whatever reason)
133. Marcus Westfalt
195. Nikolai Kovalenko

If he cleans up his defense, and matures, his talent will take him places. He has the skating to cover for his mistakes and take the puck back.

I wonder how the Habs scouting crew views Kravtsov.

He's a special player with a full arsenal on offense. He's a winger, but a play driver. If there's a chance we can trade for a chance at him, we should take it.

Him or Farabee are who I'd be hoping for if we acquire a pick between 10-15.

So who is the top 11 according to Timmins do you think?

And who do you guess is #12?

Dahlin, Svechnikov, Zadina, Boqvist, Hughes, Dobson, Tkachuk, Dobson, Wahlstrom, Bouchard, Kotkaniemi.

In no particular order.

And with particular redundancy. You have Dobson listed twice. That makes it 10 players.

Who are your 11th and 12th?

I played it again and Vancouver wanted our 3rd OV and were offering their 7-37-68. For giggles I accepted.
7-Kotkaniemi
35-Dellandrea
37-Tychonick
38-Foudy
56-gustafasson
62-Hillis
66-Khovonov
68-Fonstad
97-Morozov
102-Rtishchev
121-Roberston
128-Bitsadyle

How did I do according to the experts? I know Julien will hate it. Too many Ruskies.

When does Bob McKenzie release his final draft ranking? I think it's only shortly before the draft, is it not? I'm just curious to see where Kotkaniemi is in his final ranking.

Wouldn't be surprised to see us trade Pacioretty and pick Farabee with the pick we get for him. Not enough talk of Farabee imo, the guy is so freaking good. Really didn't like him at the start of the year, but man he impressed the hell out of me.

I think there's a better chance than not that we take a LW at 3. Would be pretty hard to justify trading Pacioretty for another considering we already are deep there. I think Kupari is a more likely target.
