Stockholm syndrome?

Meantime, 16 Swedish players thinking outloud before Bergevin arrives and weighing their options: Guys, you have to take an oath where you all agree to get converted to playing center!!!

Kotkaniemi 6'2 181lbs. Lots of room to fill out and get those chicken legs full of muscle. That's great if you're projecting 5 years down the road.

You see the difference with him and McLeod who is the same height but already 205lbs. Can't even dominate the CHL at the size of a grown man.

Gravel though. 6'3 222lbs. Usually goalies are pencil thin.

The Canadiens’ interest in Kotkaniemi came into focus Saturday as 104 prospects went though a battery of tests at the NHL Combine in Buffalo. He revealed that the Canadiens were one of three teams which took him out for a steak dinner in the past week. Detroit and Chicago were the others.

But director of player personnel Trevor Timmins said Saturday that the Canadiens have the ability to move up or down in the draft because they have four second-round picks in addition to the No. 3 pick. Timmins was non-committal on the subject of steak dinners, saying: “We’re all vegetarians.”

Dinner with three teams and Timmins being coy. We do know he trusts his Finnish scout(s) (Lehkonen, Ikonen, high interest in Teravainen)

I'm new here and I'm not sure yet how to use the forum, such as putting the tweets directly here.

Anyway, a stat that may interest some people from here.

From @grantmccag in Twitter

As of 12:20, Kotkaniemi was top 25 in 14 of 20 tests, and top 17 in 11 categories.
Zadina finished top 25 in two out of the 20 categories. As one scout noted to me..."No power."

So if we are trading down for Kotkaniemi, and we don’t want Detroit to take him, we need to trade with either:

Ottawa
Phœnix
Detroit

So, what trade could we expect? A 1st and a 2nd doesn’t seem like enough. Any prospects they might have that would interest us? And that they could move?

Just take him at 3 and save the trouble of potentially losing him to another team. Four 2nd rounders, don’t play games to try and acquire a fifth.

Detroit could take any of Dobson/Kotkaniemi/Bouchard by the looks of things. And I'd be fine with 2/3 of those. So for me, we can go below Detroit if we trade down. Also good with Hughes/Boqvist/Wahlstrom/etc

When it comes to combine, I believe in following more closely tests that indicates a level of physical gifts, rather than tests that indicate a level of physical maturity. You can improve average speak, peak speed, strength, yadi yada through training and hard work. But acceleration, explosiveness, agility,... fall more in the realm of physical talent and are generally harder to improve.

This team fell to physical maturity pitfall before (Tinordi, McCarron). And i hope they've learned their lesson
