I trust Timmins in the top 10-12 range too. And that Sergachev pick was amazing!

Btw, what did you guys think of Noah Dobson? Very professional player. Anticipates the plus very well. Very calm and poise with the puck but I feel that if more rushed or pressed, he might be overwhelmed. But all in all, very exciting prospect. Worthy of 3rd overall? I’d go for Tkachuk or Zadina.

I haven't seen enough of anyone to say who they should draft but based off the few I have seen I would pick Hughes over Tkachuk for sure since he was more impressive in the games I saw. Dobson looks like he would be a good choice as well but I would trade down to get him if the Habs think he'll be on board later.

To this writer, the team's choice at third overall is clear: Quinton Hughes. When you have a chance to draft a dynamic/elite skater, the choice should be very simple. While Zadina is a nice prospect, I have concerns that the limitations to his skating will always hinder him from being the game changer at the NHL level that this team desperately needs. Zadina is no Pasternak, who is an above average skater. The only thing they share is the same nationality. Those who worry about Hughes' size should be reminded that the Boston Bruins have largely revamped their defense with smallish, mobile players (Krug, Grzelcyk and McAvoy) who have converted the Bruins from a slow, lumbering team to one that can skate with any team in the league. That mobile defense will allow them to be a contender for the next half decade. Yes, its preferable to have a player that is both large and has elite skating ability. Unfortunately, that player will be drafted first overall. As demonstrated by his performance at the WHC, if drafted by the Canadiens, Hughes should immediately make the team, and with Mete and Petry, quickly convert Montreal's defense from being one of the league's slowest to one that can form a stable foundation for the future. I really suspect that if Carolina did not already have one of the youngest and most mobile bluelines in the league, Hughes would be a compelling option for them. If Hughes is taken, and we draft wisely with our 4 picks in the second round, management can correct many of its sins and mistakes of the past few years. And wouldn't that be a nice change.

So, why don't you prefer Noah Dobson? He was the best skater, forward and back, with and without the puck at the CHL top prospects game. I think he might have placed second in one of those categories, but was 1st in the others.

I really like Dobson, he’s the 2nd best defenceman in this draft. I would understand drafting him because of the value of great RD, but I’d be really disappointed since the only players worth anything in the Habs system would be RDs.

McAvoy is a rare type of defenseman. Very similar to Doughty. We miss out on Sergachev and now we have to build again.

As for Hughes, Is he similar to Gostisbehere? How does he project to be better? Because I do agree Dobson has a very rare combination of size/skills/skating. He reminds me a lot of Pietrangelo. And I would pick Dobson over Hughes.

Watching the Post Game interview with Noah Dobson, seemed like a young Larry Robinson to this lifelong Habs fan. It's just adding more intrigue to this 2018 Entry Draft IMHO!!!...:nod::nod::thumbu::thumbu::thumbu: Go Habs Go!!!...:popcorn::popcorn:

I do agree that if Hughes works out, he could have the biggest impact on our club. He fits our needs probably more than anyone in the draft. The problem for me is that I'm skeptical about his ability to be a true PP QB.... and if he isn't able to do that he loses a lot of value in my eyes.

Boqvist will definitely run a great PP. If I could be sold on Hughes doing that... I'd have a hard time arguing with you.

Hughes doesnt have the shot Gost has. Which is one of the reasons why hes such a good player.

You’re saying Hughes has a better shot?

Because Hughes shot is pretty so-so. Boqvist’s shot is better than both Dahlin and Quinn’s.

Shit McAvoy might be one of the thickest kids ive ever seen, calling him smallish is funny.

Krug has one of the best clapper ive seen too, while Hughes is probably comparable to mine.

Personally, I have a hard time with Hughes NHL comparison. I wish he was a bit bigger with the same skating and skill. Not sure how his game transitions to the NHL level. I've been up and down on him all year long

As far as projecting goes. To put in perspective, Hughes as a freshman produced more than Gostibehere in his 19 and 20 year-old seasons in the NCAA.

He's the better skater but like b1p pointed out Gostibehere has one of the better shots in the game from the blue line. While Hughes doesn't possess that kind of tool, I don't think it's out of the question his skating and mind for the game still make him an offensive force one day, they're that good.

Hughes could be Markov with elite skating and minus two inches.... I'd say that's intriguing to say the least.

Yeah Hughes is essentially a 4th forward out there. I think that's where the debate is for me, I don't have much doubt about his offensive potential but can he be that big minutes all-situations guy? And if he were to adapt his style, would that affect his effectiveness?

Personally I think that Smith or Boqvist fits in with our team the most. Completely putting aside their value compared to others, I just think their styles would work best with what our current D prospects + roster looks like. (I know that you're not supposed to take our current roster into consideration, but still...)
