"Leadership"
Those kind of players like Veleno generally make good captains. Don't ooze talent but good offensively for 1.5 pts per game, good defensively, good on face-offs, can play on PK and PP. They usually get like that not on skill but passion

Veleno would be another good if not great pick IMHO, the Elite speed, two way game could be a great asset against premier centers like McDavid's speed game.

The plethora of high end #1 d men in this draft will. I don’t see him going before 8 at the earliest. Probably 9-10 is likely.

There's surprises every year. All it takes is one team like the Ottawa Senators or the Red Wings to feel that Kotkaniemi is a top 5 prospect and take him before 8-10. There is no guarantees in an amateur draft.

Q: is Kotkaniemi the real want and need for Montreal in this draft?

The want at 3? No. Not from me at least. If we we're picking 4/5/6, it would be a different story. I still think Zadina is a cut above the 4th tier in the draft of Boqvist, Wahlstrom, Kotkaniemi etc.

The need? If he proves to be a center at the NHL level, then absolutely. I would definitely pick him if it were possible to trade for another top 10 pick.

IMHO he’s the best center in this draft.

Rangers want Zadina more than Jesperi. It’s not unreasonable they make good trading partners. Jesperi will be there at 9.

Well that is an easy one to set up. If Habs like Zadina anyway they take him if Carolina takes Svech. If Kotkaniemi is there at 9 the Rangers take him. After the Draft ( may be better to do it after as doing it there may mess up Zadina's day ) the Habs trade Zadina for Kotkaniemi and Chytil, ( who is another C with 1C potential , though I think the Rangers would be pretty unlikely to do it, but who knows ).

Rangers would never do that. They’d keep both centers.

Almost done with my last Habs mock of the year, haul so far:

(1)3: Filip Zadina
(2)35: Alexander Alexeyev
(2)38: Jonny Tychonick
(2)56: Jonathan Gruden
(2)59: Allan McShane
(3)66: Jan Jeník
(4)97: Filip Kral
(4)102: Danila Zhuravlyov
(4)120:
(5)128:

I'd probably prefer a forward in the Tychonick spot, would probably have two forwards that are BPA over Gruden and McShane.. Jenik, Alexey, Zadina, Zhuravlyov is a really good haul. Kral is great value at that spot.

I have McBain 1 spot ahead of Gruden (on my list) when i picked him, i had a feeling the poster behind me was gonna pick Gruden, so i didn't go BPA w/ McBain hoping he'd be available at #59 (got picked sadly). Noel was available at #35 but i have Alexeyev pretty high on my list, was hoping Noel would be available at #38 but he wasn't.

I agree. There's still a real chance he doesn't cut it as a center in the NHL. Galchenyuk was seen as the best center in his draft year too and we know what happened there.

Regardless, id love to get Kotkaniemi. I think he's going to be a hell of a player.

Sportsnet's March rankings had Lundestrom at 10 but the latest has him 23. What's up with that? Haven't heard much talk about him. Seems like another Poehling? Fair statement?

Dellandrea!

I think so as well. I wish we can get all 3... Dellandrea, Wise, and Tychonick. Who is more probable to be available at 56? Wise or Tychonick? That would be hard for me to decide

Also, I posted this on another thread... Would you trade the 3rd to the Islanders for the 11th and 12th?
Lets say the Islanders ask for Zadina and our 3rd but both Hughes and Kotkaniemi are available when they pick and we already took Zadina.

Imagine this...

Hughes (11),
Kotkaniemi (12)
Dellandrea (35)
Tychonick (38)
Wise (56)
Rodrigue (57)

I would be doing :scared:
