Playing for the national team for a few weeks is better than playing on a basement dweller in the AHL.

It would be different if he was joining the Rangers
Maybe Kravstov would rather play in North America, dude seems like he wants to come over reallt bad.

I think playing a few weeks in the AHL could help him adjust to the rink size, and he won’t be there too long.

He never said he wants to come over to NA, he said he wants to come over to play for the Rangers as soon as possible. He would have to take a massive pay cut to play under a PTO in Hartford. 80% less than what he makes now.

And he has a good chance of making the national team if he plays in the spring tournaments. He won't just be practicing in Russia.

* This is all meaningless if Traktor is not releasing him

I understand the national team tournaments and all that, but the difference in the salary and a PTO might not make that much of a difference. As soon as he signs his ELC, which will probably be for the maximum, and starts playing NHL games in the Fall, any money he may have lost in these next couple months becomes fairly insignificant. And, if I were him, and I thought playing 10 or more games here in the AHL would help me immediately transition to the NHL next year, I would think it's a worthwhile investment. But that's just me.

Also, he will get the max signing bonus on his ELC, so he will get $92,500 as soon as he signs. Of course if Traktor doesn't release him, then it's all moot.

He would still get that signing bonus if he signs in May.

He can make 50k in Russia, or 10k in Hartford. That's a lot of money to leave on the table for a teenager.

But the biggest reason for him to stay is the national team

It’s a moot point if he is not released but the difference in salary for a month of play is insignificant and shouldn’t be stumbling block. His family is well off so a few grand would not be an issue, we are not talking millions or even hundreds of thousands USD here.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both staying and leaving immediately. I don't think it's as cut and dry as you portray it.

True, but it skews the overall compensation. 50k vs 10k is a big difference. It's 5 times as much. 142,500 vs 102,500, he's getting a lot of money either way. He'd only be making about 1.4 times as much. At what point does the extra 40k not matter, or not matter enough to outweigh other factors?

How do contracts work in the KHL anyway? Is he actually getting paid during the playoffs? Does he still get paid up to the day his contract ends, even after his season is over? Or is it like in the NHL, where all of the salary is paid out during the regular season?

If Traktor gets eliminated, he'll have a little less than 2 months left on his contract (most of March and all of April). How many days are in the league year? How much does Kravtsov make per year? What happens if he plays MHL/VHL games? I'm sure he won't, but if he did, would his salary be lower like it is for players on 2 way contracts playing in the AHL?

No, it all depends on what he wants to do.

But I did not see anyone, anywhere, bring up the Spring tournament scenario
