The kid should stay for another season, if not two more. It's probably better for his personal development, and will very possibly give us a better return on the investment. It's not as if rushing him over will make any dramatic difference on the Rangers next season.

I'm not sure that rushing over guys like Kovacs and LA will do anyone any favors long term.
Lundkvist definitely should not be here next season.

Maybe the 20-21 season. Maybe. But likely target is the 21-22 season. Shattenkirk, Staal, Smith all off the books in the offseason before that one. That is also the NHL expansion draft offseason.

Agree. Let him log big minutes in SHL which is an excellent league. NHL is littered with Swedes who stay 2-3 years after the draft before making a movie and stepping right in.

Personally, this is why I love having depth and feel it is so important that remains a priority.

A kid like Lundkvist, a first round pick, can go and spend another two full seasons in the SHL and there's not the nagging question of, "When's he coming over?"

I am all about spreading these kids out, taking the time to let some of them slow cook, and easing them in.

Frankly, the 2018 draft is already moving along about as fast/well as can be expected.

Kravtsov made tremendous strides putting pieces together and is coming along faster than I would've expected a year ago, Miller had about as good of a debut season in the NCAA as anyone had any business asking for, and Lundkvist is doing his thing.

A year ago, I would've been happy with Kravtsov coming in 2020, and Miller and Lundkvist in 2021. The fact that we're possibly looking at 2019 and 2020 for the first two names is already a boon.

without question...and the depth also puts pressure on/challenges the kids that are closer to the nhl as well. no one can get comfortable cause if they don't continue to get better, someone is coming to steal their job.

So moving to the top pair? Nice.

Jesper Sellgren, who was on the top pair, signed his ELC with Carolina. Lundkvist is expected to take his spot.

Also, Lundkvist is flying to New York at the end of next week to join the Rangers prospect camp. He's very excited to meet all the new prospects we are adding to the system. He said in an interview that he feels it's very important to meet everyone.

Love this kid. Says and does all of the right things - always.

Same. The waves are also necessary to manage the ELC's. I truly feel that the cherry on top is next year's draft. If Gorton can emerge with two first rounders, that will be the absolute cherry on top on the strictly rebuilding, asset gathering portion of the rebuild. It cannot be stated enough how important organizational depth is.
