Check the top 25, they’re all there

How unexpected... Exactly what I meant with “perennial” hockey powers reference. Is there an article or something that goes more in depth about these teams or someone here could share their thoughts?

I'm honestly more excited about Miller than Kravtsov; not because I think he is a better prospect, but because he may jump up everybody's rankings almost as quickly as Chytil did.

His development is a crucial point of measurement for Gorton, et al. The picks they had to give up for him combined (if I remember correctly) were valued as 6th or 7th overall. They bet heavily on Miller coming closer to the boom side of his potential.

edit - just looked up a couple charts. 26th + 48th = 6th approximately.

That seems ridiculous. I would picket outside the garden if we traded a 6th for a 26th and 48th.

I wouldn't be a fan either, but apparently that is what the expected value is. The problem with those numbers is that they don't take into account the environment (draft class, available prospects, etc.) that a GM should be paying attention to in a specific instance.

That said, I still wouldn't say that it was a good trade for us in a vacuum. The fact that we made the trade, should be enough evidence for us to safely bet that we had Miller as at least a top15 prospect in the class. All the more reason that management should be praised or ridiculed more than normal for the outcome of this pick.

Hey guys, congrats on K'Andre's amazing start to the season. I see you guys are discussing this a bit already, but I posted a poll on the main board comparing the value of Miller to JBD + Tychonick. Pop in if you want to vote and or discuss!

As I say in the post, I loved the trade based on the value of the return... but with Miller's excellent start to the season and his general, undeniable talent and athletic ability, I think it is a very close call.

The Schuckers chart which everyone seems to reference has the 26th and 48th getting you around the 12th or 13th, but not even close to the 6th.

That link is to his study in PDF form, by the way.

Interesting. That makes more sense on the surface.

I was going by an ESPN chart and another; I'll post the links in a min.

Edit - here they are (was Sportsnet not ESPN). I admit, that I never went too deep in analysing them. When I get a chance, I will look at them all and perhaps change my opinion. Is the Schuckers chart more universally accepted?

Don't Tell Me About Heart: NHL Draft Pick Value Chart

Edit 2 - Took a quick glance, I think the Schuckers chart measures value based on GP, while the other two use GAR? That could be the difference. GP would look for steady NHLers while GAR would be weighted heavier in favour of finding star players.

Wow. 2-5-7 in 6 games. I haven’t seen many of his highlights, but hopefully, if he can keep up even half the production, we are golden and can maybe expect him to be in the NHL by age 20.

Funny thing is that Lundkvist isn't struggling.

It's crazy how misinformed some people are who still act as if they know everything. I have seen someone state that Lundkvist is struggling because he was "sent down" to the junior team. But I already debunked that a few days ago. Lundkvist played 2 games in SuperElit on Friday and Sunday, because both were home games and the SHL team played on Saturday. He played 4 games in 4 days. Hardly signs of a player struggling.

I have no problem with people having hot takes, but at least own it like a man when you are wrong.
