His father or brother were high level NHL players?

No, but part of their decision was based on genetics and when his parents stopped growing. Or something to that effect. Based on a story Joe was telling about his family during a broadcast.

Teams do consider genetics sometimes.

And for all the people saying you shouldn't trade up. There was an offer of the 7th and 21st for the 3rd overall last year. So it would've been Chytil and Andersson for Petersson. I would easily take that.

IMO they would have taken Glass at #3, not Pettersson.

Again, for every example that succeeded, there's a bunch that laughably failed.

That's a bit of a stretch from " well his dad was a great NHL player so he will be"

Ok!

The year before that...

Tyler Biggs (Team trading down got Rikard Rakell and John Gibson L-O-****ing-L)
Matt Puempel (Pump it up!)
Tyler Wotherspoon (Team trading down got Jesper Fast, wonder who that was...)
Mario Lucia
Andrey Pedan
TJ Tynan
Jared Knight (Team trading down got Brandon Saad)
Brennan Serville
Zachary Yuen (Team trading down got Sean Kuraly)
This is incredibly interesting and pertinent. Keep on......Keep on doin' it...... Baby keep on.

Thanks!

Friedman had the story in on of his 31 thoughts columns in October, if I remember it right, the Rangers had been keeping an eye on him since he was like 15 or so, and he was pretty short and slight and they looked into his family to get an idea of what type of body he'd end up growing into, his mom was 5'11", and his dad and brother were both like 6'4"/5" and all had been professional athletes I think

Quinn Hughes by a lot of boards looks to be available to us at 9, if that's the case I AM NOT TRADING UP. Take him and run.

I'm not even sure he will be available but we'll see.
I do agree 100% on NOT trading up.
It will cost too much and I highly doubt a package around Names/Spooner would get that deal done.

It’s along the same lines though. It’s about genetics. And I think you’d find that a lot of NHL players had one or both parents who were very good athletes and some point in their lives. Our other first round pick last year certainly did.

By the way, apparently Chytil’s dad and brother are both 6’4” and the mom is 5’10”
