These are the games that matter for these countries. These are the games that will determine if they join Italy and the UK next year in the Elite division, or if they play against Kazakhstan, Slovenia and Hungary in Div1 Group A.

Unless there are some surprises, 2 of Denmark, Belarus, South Korea, France and Germany will be relegated.

Agreed. Between the Div1 A WC in Budapest this year and the elite WC in Bratislava next year and the Div1 A in 2019 potentially being in Ljubljana, I have the opportunity to watch a lot of international hockey close to home. Watching all these different countries in different stages of developing the game for their country, is a lot of fun

NHL/AHL affiliations aside, wouldn't it be fun to have the last placed team in each NHL conference replaced by the best two AHL teams every season?

Here's the thing: It would eliminate the draft model.

You can't have a promotion-relegation system and a draft system. The two don't work together.
