I don't see it with him, personally. I mean I would love for you to be right, but I don't see it. He can't produce much at Even Strength

Granted, the only player who has been better is also his linemate in Rakell, who creates lots of space for his line. If he got to play with someone like that he'd hit 75 points in a full season, I'm pretty sure.

Beautiful tip by Chytil, doesn't get much better than that

It’s hard to ask Shestyorkin to do any better than he’s done so far. Stopped every shot faced, 2 shutouts. Koshechkin hasn’t been bad, but he hasn’t been good either. If Russia loses tomorrow to Sweden, maybe Shestyorkin gets the start in the QF’s. He already should, but he doesn’t get fair treatment and we know that.

Chytil plays, Chytil produces. What a shocker it must be for the Czech coach!

Against mediocre teams like France and Austria, yes.

Just like Lias getting a goal vs Belarus and an assist vs Austria. It's nice to see our kids get on the scoreboard, but they are not good enough to be in the top-9. Chytil and Lias should feel honoured to be playing in this tournament at such a young age and learn from it.

He completely sat out the first few games, he had 0 ice time the first few games and an injury to Nestrasil opened a spot for him. Unfortunately the Czechs already played all the hard games before then.

Yes, Chytil wasn't playing because he didn't earn his ice time.
I'd say he did with his play in the AHL/NHL this season and he looked solid in the limited ice time he's had at the WC. Thing is a lot of the current players based in Europe already played a bunch of tournaments together so it's hard to justify putting him in over the ones that have already proven they play well together.

Bingo! That, and his performance in the EHT which didn't really show he earned a spot in the top-9

He took care of his business. The rest is out of his hands but I think Koshechkin would really need to bomb tomorrow (like 4-5 goals on 20ish shots) for Shesty to have a chance as a playoff starter.

He wasn't even in the top 12 for much of the tournament, and his teamates also play against this weaker competition and look worse than him, Lias I can understand because Sweden is stacked, not so much in a pretty weak Czech Republic team.

Chytil didn't play with these players all season, until the Carlson games in Pardubice (after the AHL and NHL seasons were over). Chytil isn't significantly better than Cervenka, Kousal, Repik etc. You know who are? Guys like Pastrnak. That's why he plays immediately after coming over. Chytil didn't impress when he was playing in the EHT. He didn't earn his spot in the top-9.

Saying the Czechs have a pretty weak team is crazy. Chytil isn't better than Jaskin, Krejci, Pastrnak, Faksa, Horak, Plekanec and even Cervenka, Repik or Nestrasil.

You' re saying 9 guys, and Krejci and Pastrnak weren't even there when Chytil was warming the bench. And he brings more offense than Cervenka, Kousal and Repik, in a team that sorely miss that, it's a no brainer to at least play him as 3rd/4th liner tweener.

In the Carlson game, I think it was in that tournament, the Czechs were getting anihilated by Sweden, the only time they showed some fight was when the coach put Chytil and Zadina to play more in the 3rd period. They are more raw than some Czech players, but it's better to bet in them if you wanna try to win the tournament than play some solid mediocre talent on the team.

Playing a bunch of 18-year old prospects in the World Championship is incredibly naive, unless those players are elite. McDavid level etc. There are only 12 teenagers in the entire tournament. People really need to realize that this isn't some junior tournament. Players like Cervenka, Kousal and Repik offer more than Chytil at the moment. There is so much more to take into account when putting these lines together. Raw talent alone isn't really a good way to set your lineup.

It's 2 players in Czech Republic case, one play in Extraliga and the other in the AHL ( both were dominants in their leagues). If you don't like Chytil's defensive game put him on a line with Plekanec, like they did today, balance your lines. I guess I just disagree with you about Cervenka, Kousal, Repick and cia offering more than Chytil atm.

I can't wait for all the "World Championship is meaningless anyway" responses on social media by Canadians.

I think it is for established NHL’ers. I don’t want those guys getting hurt. We know what they can do. For the two kids, Shestyorkin and Pionk, I think it’s important.

Canada’s whole team is established NHL’ers. I don’t think there’s a player on there that really needs to prove themselves in the hockey world.

I expect Filip will be some day but just not today. That he and Lias made their respective teams is quite an accomplishment at the age they're at.

Sometimes the complaining about the coaching everywhere reminds me of parents complaining that their kids aren't playing enough. Not every coach everywhere is a moron or some evil old man with an agenda. Some of them actually do have a clue about what they're doing.

I will say even some of the weaker teams in the tournament have some very good players---and even if they're not all in the NHL. It might not exactly be the Stanley Cup playoffs but it's still pretty strong competition. All our guys in the tournament are doing fine.

Yes and no, it depends on the player. Look at Hank with Sweden last year
