The veterans and their leadership, showing “how to play the right way” has led to the worst record in the NHL the past 3 years.

Exactly why we have a top three prospect’s pool in the whole league.
See what I did there?
We will have one of the best teams in the league in 5 years. That is how a rebuild works.

I take it you’d like to go 0-82 in a year to help the rebuild right?
A team of rookies will do exactly that without veterans. Zero voice in the locker room and nobody to look up to in order to learn how to become a professional Hockey player.

Just ask Edmonton how that's going I lost count how long that's been going on. They are on rebuild part 2 and they even got a franchise player and they still missed the playoffs this year.

Almost none of those players have played an 82 game season you just stated by the way.

You’re right about the tanking part, that is definitely good for a rebuild and Benning is a masterful tanker.

However his ability to pro scout for trades and UFA makes it extremely unlikely we will be any sort of top team while he remains GM.

Hard to say. Is there as much blatant reality to ignore for them?
I have never heard of blatant reality. How does it differ from reality. Perhaps your attempt to smear Benning by using the T-word is more than a little childish. However, I congratulate you for not trying to label him a racist or misogynist.

The whole mentor and culture carrier thing is a complete sham. We just end up with a bunch of mediocre veterans on lifestyle contracts with no accountability enjoying their fat salaries in Vancouver. There's no winning culture being established by the likes of Del Zotto, Sutter, Edler, et. al.

The two new mentors will fit in right alongside the current group of fat-cat vets riding sweet contracts toward retirement with no risk of losing their jobs regardless of, at best, mediocre on-ice performance.

Yeah they should have signed more vets to create a better culture like we are.
Finally someone who agrees with me.

So you’re counting on our rookies to be injury filler? Like call up Gaudette for 3 games when a guy has a sore wrist then send him back down?

That’s a tough way to break into the NHL as it means he has to play different roles according to who is out and never lets him feel a part of the team. It’s a way I suppose but far from a good one.

The kindest thing I can say about Benning’s moves is that he’s possibly the best tanker the league has seen in years.

Wrong. A true tanker would take on bloated contracts from injured or overpaid players and receive draft picks as compensation.

We are wasting cap space on mediocre players without getting anything in return.

Sure, we’ll suck, but we won’t have extra draft picks to go along with ours.

Well you are describing a rebuilder, which Benning assuredly is not. But he has built a masterful tank team.

Not if he’s getting top minutes wherever else he’s playing in the position he’s slated to play in the NHL.
Let’s make Gaudette a fourth line winger and everyone will be happy!
Right?

I didn’t mention the T word, that was someone else.

See, that’s what blatant reality is.

Sort of like how Horvat started out?

Ya, that was a disaster

Yes because culture would have fixed their defense and goaltending lol

“Culture”

That’s also poor drafting but good thing we don’t have that problem in Vancouver.
We have one of the top prospects in every position
Pettersson, Hughes, Demko.
What is deeper in our prospects pool?
Goaltending, Defense or our forwards?
I’d argue they are all elite and equal after the last draft.

Absolutely. The over reliance on evidence that is just factually inaccurate is strikingly similar between both groups.
Well thank you for trying to politically enlighten us hockey fans that have strayed into this political discussion board. Although nearly everyone has come here to discuss hockey, you have found it necessary to provide us with some much needed political education and direction. I am sure we all thank you for your efforts in this regard.

I don't disagree with making sure players are ready before they enter the league. I don't even disagree with taking on players like this under the right circumstances, and even overpaying them.

What I have a problem with is putting two players who are 4th liners into our lineup with a gifted spot and a long term deal. The idea is to insulate young players so they are not rushed into the league and playing over their head. It is not to completely block their path to the NHL. Oh and by the way our glut of waiver fodder is surely red meat to other GMs where we have totally shown our cards, and instead of a trade being available, they can just wait til we start waiving people.

A salary cap means nothing to a rebuilding team, but is critical to a contending team. A rebuilding team does not have to worry about the salary cap as high value free agents will NOT be signing with them. As such it can afford to carry players that can help the young budding stars develop into star players and not bust. By the time the young stars are ready to carry the team, and more assets are needed through free agency, these vets are off the books. This is not a difficult concept to understand for most.

How about a rebuilding team having a strategy and signing short term FAs that can be flipped for draft picks?

In years 3 and 4 of the bad FA contracts that Benning has been signing the past 3 years, these immovable veterans will be in the way of younger, faster, better players. Have you seen them bench Gagner or Erikksson or Del Zotto no matter how poorly they play?

4 more years at 6 million of Eriksson is not wasting money and roster space because we aren't in the playoffs? This is your logic?

Something about rain and a lake house I should have caught on to?
Listening to rambling isn’t my strong suite

Here I will repost the actual point, as I know Ryan Miller is a bit slow.

Cause god knows these players have never won anything before. Right Petterson?

Cause last season proved young teams can’t turn a corner Colorado and New Jersey.

That we don’t have enough with Horvat, elder Sutter Eriksson Tanev Biega Baertschi Gudbranson.

I can just picture how sad and confused Jim is why people don't like his free agent signings.
