Rotoworld gave the Giants a C-, Jets the only team in the A range, thought it seems the grading curve was a bit strict.

Some clown on Yahoo gave the Giants a D- and the Jets a C-. There are some dumbasses out there. I think the consensus is that both team did quite well. I haven't seen any actual knocks on the Jets draft--most everyone seems to generally agree that the players picked were good values and good for the team. There's more variation in the Giants draft grades which boils down to whether or not people grade it based on what Barkley should be, or whether they think it was a mistake to pick him at two, plus the QB they drafted is somewhat controversial. If you're good with those two picks you give the Giants a good grade; if not, you give them a much lower grade.

In terms of approach, I could see a lower grade for the Giants. But, in terms of execution, getting the best player in the draft should give them an A, especially when you add in Hernandez and Carter.

Yeah, I see the Barkley pick as a very short term move. Which of course makes sense with Gettelman, he's not in it for the long haul of drafting and developing a QB for results 3-5 years from now. He was hired by Giants ownership to get them back in Super Bowl contention with the short window you have with Eli Manning.

I personally think that window should have been slammed shut after the season the Giants just had.

Another crap season for the Giants and they're back to square one with nothing to build around moving forward. That's way too big of a risk to take.

If it’s another crap season then they’ll draft a QB next year/use Webb or Lauletta. I don’t understand why people act like if the Giants don’t draft a QB this year, that they’ll never get another one.

You cant just bank on Webb or Lauletta, us Jets fans did the same thing with Petty and its fools gold, and if you drafted a QB this season at least you have a year of his development, instead of being back at the proverbial square one and having to start all over. This upcoming season would just be a pretty big waste.

Next year QB class sucks and the team it's too good to be picking top 10 again for the foreseeable future. It was a golden opportunity to stabilize our franchise for the next 15 years, Barkley better be a HOF type of back to justify passing on a QB, and we better win a superbowl.
The other possibility, which I think it's improbable, is that every QB we passed sucks.

I like the Giants draft other than the Barkley pick. I get the C ratings though, when you have the 2OA, you have to nail it.

Jet fans will be glad that they passed on Rosen. The guy is made of glass and not an NY type of guy.

The Giants are not the Jets. The Jets took QBs while not having a QB in place to begin with. The Giants have operated with the idea that Eli plays at least two more seasons. Maybe 3. They arent “banking” on Webb or Lauletta. They are stockpiling arms while not in desperation to replace a QB that has won two super bowls. They will have 2-3 more drafts / offseasons to find a suitable replacement to take over

If Barkley is as advertised, he instantly gives the NYG a floor of 7ish wins if he's healthy. So, they will likely not be picking top-5 anytime soon. They have a 37 y/o QB who was horrific last year. In 2020 their options will be trade a HUGE bounty to get a QB or gamble on a project in the middle of Rd-1. Is that really less risky than your choice of options in this class? It's an instant gratification, short sighted move. Thinking 2018 Eli can win a Super Bowl is just la la land to me.

I like the rest of their draft a lot. But #2 makes it hard to give the NYG any more than a C.

And what if Eli falls off a cliff this season? Then what?

The Ravens have a Super Bowl MVP in Flacco, yet they were able to recognize his time is coming to an end and are fully prepared if that happens sooner than later. The Giants are not, and it's not a place you want to be.

You just used Joe Flacco as the comparison...end of discussion right there.

There really isn’t much of a difference between the two.

Eli Manning might be the most overrated QB in NFL history.

And I thought PEYTON was overrated.

Eli was underrated for pretty much all his career, he played at the same level that Big Ben for the majority of their careers, and people always loved Roethliberger and crapped on Eli.
We should move on him now, but lets not kill the guy, we won the 2011 superbowl mainly because of him, he dragged that team to the postseason.

Yeah, Eli did INCREDIBLE things for the Giants, if the Jets had a player like that I would probably want to keep him around for as long as possible as well.

But you have to make the hard decisions and put emotions aside. I'm not sure I would want to go into the next 3 seasons with a declining Eli and no firm future QB in place.

I’d go with Len Dawson myself.

Namath and Favre (also dumbest name to pronounce?) I agree

Don’t know enough about Griese to say

He had a backfield that was one of the best of all time. They went undefeated when he was injured most of the season. In one of the Super Bowls, I believe he attempted less than 10 passes. Stabler and Bradshaw were so much better than Griese, and yet Bradshaw was considered ‘dumb’ and it took Stabler years to be elected to the HoF. And I HATED the Raiders in the 70’s, even though my uncle was on the coaching staff.

Maybe the Giants should have traded next years first to trade back in and draft Rosen. Similiar to what the Texans and Chiefs did and now they have their guys. Even if the Giants have a disaster of a season and wanted to draft a QB in 2019, he likely wouldn't have been better than Rosen, let alone Rosen with a year of sitting behind Eli and working with Shumur.

Hernandez, Carter and McIntosh were all great picks.

Barkley is a great player, probably the best in the draft, but he has to give the team some longevity for it to be a great pick; something like 6-8 years of healthy production.

Its not how I would have proceeded but personally I think they did pretty well and putting aside the Barkley controversy I think they did fantastic.

No he wasn't. Eli Manning has been, outside of a couple years, a very pedestrian quarterback. What he HAS had that others have not has been his ridiculous level of toughness, his lack of injuries, and his ability to raise his play above mediocrity at crucial times.

He's unfortunately lost the final piece of that puzzle, though, as he's been one of the least clutch QBs in the league the last 5 years or so.
