Sean Day

this player was billed as having all the tools is size, speed etc but no tool box

I see he had good ECHL #s but not good AHL numbers.

I don't watch the AHL. How did he do this year. Will Sean make it?

14 points in 45 games is pretty good numbers for a rookie. Especially on a dumpster fire like HFD

From what I've seen and heard, Pionk is very popular with casual fans. It's a small group of analytics guys who bash him. The people going to games just see a young guy, who tries really hard and is basically home-grown (UDFA). Same with Vesey. The majority of fans love these players. Just not the guys like you and me who look at games for more detailed things etc

He is pretty much destroyed all over on Twitter etc.

That's exactly my point. The majority of Ranger fans don't talk on Twitter about this stuff. They just go about their day, watch the games when they come home from work and the moment the game is over, they watch the cooking channel with the wife. That's it.

When they attend the game at MSG, they go home after the game without thinking "Oh boy, Pionk really missed some assignments out there. Let's see what Twitter has to say"

Who has a higher ceiling Kravtsov or Miller?
I think Miller’s upside has no cap. He has every tool you want in an elite NHL player. Love Kravtsov, and think he’s the “safer” elite player, but if absolutely everything clicks for Miller, we’re talking about a guy with banner raising potential.

So if they get Fox do they boot Pionk ?
He’s a RD asset still imo

Shatty , Fox , DeAngelo?

I would trade Shatty. He has value to a team. Everyone looks worse on a bad squad, but on a better team, Shatty placed in a proper role can be very useful. Let's keep in mind that RDs are the hardest spot to fill.

Maybe even Shatty @50% and Fast for Fox.

I find banner raising potential a bit of a strange criterion for what we call elite. Bad players don't get their names retired but if you win a cup and are a decent contributor and popular with the fans you can get your number retired. You don't need to be elite. I think HOF is a better measuring stick.

Just trying to mix up how we phrase lofty projections

But yeah I think if Miller puts it all together, with the physical attributes that he has, can be a Norris caliber defenseman. It’s just a matter of being able to process the game mentally at the next level - the fact that he stepped right into the NCAA and started producing big numbers as a young, just recently turned defenseman is, IMO, a very good sign that he’s able to adapt quickly. And he seems like a helluva kid and a very hard worker, so I’m not doubting him.

Granato has praised him all year for his skill set and how coachable he is, the one ‘tool’ he’s really going to have to work on if he’s going to be an elite player is his shot or how comfortable he is using it. All season it felt like every shot he took from the blue line he was just trying to get the puck deep, but towards the net, to me it seemed like he was only trying to score when he had the space to move up (or was already there) to at least the top of the circles. Other than that it really feels like all this kid needs is to just keep getting reps and keep learning situational stuff as a dman, really really exciting kid.

And slightly OT, but I feel like the Rangers have really done an amazing job of identifying kids who were just about to take a big step in their respective developments with their draft picks lately

And Kristianstad wins in overtime, 2-1!

Almtuna is relegated to HockeyEttan (3rd tier). Fortunately, it doesn't matter for Ragnarsson. He signed with Rögle and will play in the SHL next season

A decent contributor and popular with the fans, but not elite.
One of the major reasons the 1994 Cup is here and not in Vancouver. A little more than a "decent" contributor.

What Richer had was unreal flexibility, as opposed to true talent. Henke is the much more talented goalie. But he cannot do the post to post splits that Richter could do. Henke is a HOF goalie. Richter is not. Richter deserves to have his number retired.

Because we won a Cup? May as well put no 21 in the rafters for Zubov then.

At the beginning of the year, he was lackadaisical at best in the AHL. He needed to get a wake-up call in the ECHL because he closed out the year as arguably Hartford's best defender.
