I have seen him play twice, met him once. It's been a while though. Hope he stays in Rauma so I can attend a game next season
Do you think he'll stay another year or come over?. He's just turned 21 so I could imagine him being over here. But we still have that left defense glut, especially if Rykov is here.

Riley Hughes had 3 assists in Victoria's win. His line in 1-13-14 in 9 games.

Elmer had a primary assist.

Neither Gross nor Keane had points.

Those are all playoff games, BTW.

Kjellberg didn't play, in what was surely a devastating blow to his team.

Ok I literally came out of this thread, only to find the Tarmo thread where you gave your opinion on this - that you would have him stay. I think I agree. If I had more faith in Hartford as a place to develop it might be different. I really hope Rykov, Kravstov and Shesty sign and come over next year. Maybe its because I'm old and remember the Cold War but I get nervous about them being over there.

Reasons to bring him over now:
- He's 21
- Rights expire next year, so it's risky to wait

Reasons to wait:
- He only had 1 full year in Liiga now in the top-4
- We have so many LHD in the system already

It depends

Thanks, it's been said by others nut it's a shame the Hartford situation seems such a mess. I worry that having Tarmo and Rykov there all season won't help them in their development, and Staal, Sjkei, and Hajek are probably in New York. Then there's Lindgren and, of course, Smith. It's just as well to have Miller stay in college two more years.

Can't they sign him, bring him over and if things arent working out numbers wise option him back to his team in the Liiga?

Miller should without a doubt stay in college for another year.

You get nervous about Russian people living in Russia?

About them staying in Russia.

They're better off playing for their respective teams, apart from maybe Shestyorkin because of the shared duties, than the dumpfire that is Hartford. Unless something drastically changes down there or they'll have an actual chance of playing substantial minutes on the Rangers, I very much advice them to stay exactly where they are.

Cold war hahaha. Better not draft any Swedish players either then, since they were once a mighty empire and Swedish players don't want to leave that behind

It's difficult to tell if a guy like Rykov/Shesty is actually NHL ready until he plays hockey in North America.

It's not ideal but it has to be done in some cases.

Can anyone give me a good scouting report of Jacob Ragnarsson? He seems to be having a forgettable season. I know his team sucks an I know he was injured and I by no means want to write him off in his D+1 season, but I feel like we all expected a lot more from him. Has anyone seen him play and does anyone know what the plan is for next year with him? Has an 0-6-6 stat line in 37 games and a -23 with 36PIM.

He has 2 more points in 10 less games than Wild 1st rounder Filip Johansson lmao that’s all I got (what an awful pick by the Wild btw)

Ragnarsson is a difficult prospect to judge at this moment. 1 year after being drafted, playing on a horrible team in Allsvenskan, it can go either way. The fact that Ragnasson was the last D-man to be cut from the WJC Sweden team makes me hopeful, especially since he missed part of the season due to injury prior to that.

National team coaches see something in the kid.

I dont mean to stir the pot, just doing due diligence, but are we sure it isn't because of his dad?

I think the Rangers do tend to pick players who come from families with pro hockey history.

Lias
Ragnasson
Kjellberg
Virta
Lundkvist
Ronning
Tambellini
Hughes
Nanne
Själin

Do I think that it affected their decision enough to reach for Ragnarsson? Maybe. But I don't think Ragnarsson is a reach to the proportions of Kjellberg. As I said, Ragnarsson has played for the national team in different age groups and was close to making the team for the WJC.

The Hockey News Futures Watch issue is out online. The Rangers article was written by Steve Zipay.

The HN ranks organizations by players 21 and under, not just players who have yet to play a certain number of NHL games. So, for example, Vancouver's rating is higher because of Elias Pettersson. The Ranger ranking also includes Filip Chytil and Brett Howden. With this background the Rangers had a B+ rating, 11 th in the NHL. That's up from 24 last year.

The Rangers had four players in the top 100:

5. Vitaly Kravtsov
34. Lias Andersson
37. Igor Shestryorkin
62. K'Andre Miller

These four are the first four players in the Rangers top ten. The others are:

5. Libor Hajek
6. Nils Lundkvist
7. Adam Huska
8. Ryan Lindgren
9. Morgan Barron
10. Joey Keane

Last year's top ten were:

1. Andersson
2. Chytil
3. Shestorkin
4. Hajek
5. Deangelo
6. Howden
7. Lindgren
8. Pionk
9. Huska
10. Rykov

There obviously is room to debate the rankings but I doubt Zipay made this list up. He is talking to Rangers front office so I think this provides some indication of where the Rangers rank the players. Also remember that while this issue just came out the work on it would have been done a few weeks if not months ago and so would not account for a player who had a strong end of the year such as Reunanen.
