Best D scoring WHL since 2008-2009:
Connor Hobbs 85 pts
Brendan Kichton 85 pts
Paul Postma 84 pts
Stefan Elliot 81 pts
Brendan Kichton 81 pts
David Quenneville 80 pts
Shea Thedore 79 pts
Josh Brook 75 pts

PPG wise:
Kale Clague 1.31 ppg
Travis Sanheim 1.31 ppg

Man...Stefan Elliot. He did a number on the avs. Not only did he bust, but he made Siemens look like a draft pick.

Thats cool and all but would have been nice to break MJ's (as in Moose Jaw) team record. He definitely deserved it.

For sure. He's still the best for points in the last 20 years (the 76 pts record was Scott Schonek in 1998-1999 and was in 72 games). No other MJ D had more than 70 points from 1999 to 2019. That includes a D+1 Morgan Rielly (54 pts in 60 games).

Brook has a 0.18 ppg lead on the 2nd highest MJ PPG D that played at least 50 games (Brian Walker 71 in 65 games in 1984-1985). The only D with a higher PPG played only 15 games (Garth Lamb 20 pts in 15 games in 1986-1987, who finished the year at a total of 32pts in 52 games with 3 teams, well below the ppg of Brook).

With the regular seasons over in the CHL, the end-of-year awards are given out. Some Habs prospects are honored.

- Josh Brook was named Eastern Conference Defender of the Year and also named on the Eastern 1st All-Star Team.
- Scott Walford was named to the Western Conference 2nd All-Star Team.

In the OHL, they do a Coach's Poll, where they poll the coaches around the league on various categories.

- Nick Suzuki was named the Smartest Player in the Western Conference, the 2nd Best Shot in the Western Conference, and the 3rd Best Stickhandler in the Western Conference.

Pretty amazing for Walford to be named on that 2nd All-Star team!! We need to sign him IMO.

The fact that Brook was named Top defenceman in the Eastern Conference means he's going against Smith for Top defenceman in the WHL this year also?

I think Walford and Tyszka will be signed. Both of their rights expire this year. And both earned themselves an ELC. Even if Tyszka missed a lot of time due to concussion, he was still able to hit the 30-point mark and was close to scoring 10 goals.

I hope we sign both of them (Walford and Tyszka). We signed Pezzetta and Bitten on March 7th... what are we waiting ? It would be stupid to not sign them.
both will be signed. Hes probaby thinkng which contracts to dump off to accommodate them, future signngs, and prospects he must sign soon (poehlng; 2019 class, etc)

Agreed, they have a bunch of guys with expiring contracts so it won't be a problem. they are at 46 spots with a bunch of guys likely not getting resigned.

At this moment, Montreal is committed to 30 NHL contracts next season. The players under contract at this moment that are either becoming RFA or UFA are:

Armia, Lehkonen, Weal, Thompson, Hudon, Benn, Kulak, Reilly, Folin, Niemi, McCarron, Audette, Lernout, Shinkaruk, Olofsson, and Ouellet. We know for sure a few of them aren't returning (Niemi and Thompson and a few others). But a number of them will be extended.

Walford and Tyszka are the two prospects who have to be signed soon as their rights expire. So basically, those two take up the two slots that will be made available by Niemi and Thompson. With their intention to sign Poehling, as well, all they'd need to do is decide which of the aforementioned RFA/UFA players they simply opt to walk.

So no Romanov again and Ylonen with only 6 minutes of TOI in game 1.

Also good news for those that have cbs sports, they will show the rest of the NCHC playoffs, so Poehling tomorrow night at 5 pm, Stapley on after that game, then the championship game is on Saturday night. Should have Habs NCAA scout Dave Starman doing the play by play.

Also should be noted that Walford was 2nd on his team in points and only 2 points behind the leader. His team is very weak offensively and on any other team in the WHL I think he would've had a 60+ point season.

Definitely. Victoria did trade for Hannoun and Kody McDonald to help with scoring, and they’ve done just that.

Good to read the positives of Walford's season. We have guys on whom we have expectations, like Brook, Poehling etc, but we could sure use a guy to come out of nowhere and show real good potential. Nice that Walford still could be that, seemed written off earlier in the season.

He was a 3rd round pick. I mean, he could become something. Evans and Primeau CAME out of nowhere.

Yes, exactly. A couple guys who turn into a top 6 player , top 4D or starting goalie from outside the top 2 rounds can have a hefty impact on a team. Last guy was Gallagher.
