Putting Barrie on the second unit will make the transition to his being traded easier.

I’d honestly like to put Girard on the top unit instead of Jost and let them play the full 2 minutes Pittsburgh/Washington style.

Make the setup like this. Shifting clockwise one half Spot each continuously on shot attempts. Gabe to the front of the net.

Personally I'd like to see something like ...

#1 Landeskog-MacKinnon-Rantanen-Compher-Barrie
#2 Kerfoot-Soda-Wilson-Jost-Girard

And then when we really need a goal sub out JTC with Girard.

Only reason I even have Wilson on the PP is he's a bigger body that could dig out the puck and get it to the more offensive guys + potential screenings. If Kamenev can continue to build on his game I'd love to see him get some PP time down the road.

Don't think we'll see Compher on the first unit. Last season they sort of mirrored their two powerplay groups. They put Compher in the exact same place as MacKinnon on the top unit and had him set up for one timers. Given the lack of right handed shots, I expect that to continue.

Almost all of the vets will be playing so we should get a good idea of what Bednar is planning with the lineup. All I want to see is Girard-EJ and Zadorov-Barrie as the top four with Cole on the bottom pairing tomorrow.

Don't fix it if it ain't broken. We had the ninth or tenth best powerplay last year. Actually all that matters is this:

Mackinnon Rantanen

Barrie

Our second powerplay unit is a joke because we have no talent to put there besides maybe Girard.

Yeah I definitely agree with this. I don’t care too much if they keep Jost on the top unit, but throw them out there for 2 minutes and just let em rip it up.

I still think I'd rather have Girard running his own pairing against third pairing competition. Move him up the lineup if it goes well.

Zads - EJ -- Tanks, just eat up 25-30 minutes a night with PK time included
Nemo - Barrie -- 5 on 5 threat, steady presence covering Barrie while he roams
Sam - Cole -- Utility pairing, split up for PK / PP time, the odd shift after a PP or PK concludes and someone else is tired, etc.

Once injuries hit, scramble them up. But there's no reason to put EJ in a defensive role and Girard against heavy competition yet.

Plus, the absolutely last thing I want is a Nemo - Cole pairing. Please no shutdown 3rd pairing defensive pairing against top competition.

If Jost can actually become a threat, it would be huge for the Avs. Last year, teams knew that either Mack or Rants was taking the shots, with the occasional few from Barrie. If Jost can step up and get more coverage from teams, it will free up Mack / Rants more.

Our 2nd PP unit really exposes our lack of secondary scoring. Guys like Wilson and Compher should be on the PK, not the PP.

I'd rather have Soda on the 2nd unit than all these guys except Girard.

Not that I think Girard needs to be on the #1 PP unit, but I think too much is made of his shot. He's got a very good slap shot from the point, he's just inconsistent with it. I think we heard he changed his stick over the summer. Hopefully that, and more practice will lead to less breaks, and more consistency.

He's still just 20 years old after all, and apparently put on some muscle over the summer. Though I'm not buying this 16 pounds of muscle idea. I think the original number they're basing that off was probably not accurate, or heavily influenced by some context they're leaving out.

I would bet we'll probably see Girard take a fair amount more shots this year. 84 shots over 73 games for an offensive defenseman is just too low. I'd like to see him double that if he can, but at least get to around 120 or so.

I like Mikko wayyyyyyyy too much on the right half wall to move him from that spot in favour of Girard. His shot and playmaking ability keep killers honest. It's so tough to defend when all of MacKinnon, Rantanen, and Barrie have the shot and playmaking abilities.

I want Mikko on the half wall too. The diagram I made is very difficult on HF lol. But basically he would shift up and down the wall from high to low just like last year. Girard and Barrie rover the entire blue line and Mackinnon handles the other wall. Landy handles down low and switched to either side of the net depending on where the puck is and crashes the front when the others are shooting.

I have a honest question for you guys and its completely ignorance on my part. What the heck is going on with Timmons? He got that concussion at the end of his Minors season correct? What could take multiple months to clear concussion protocol? I'm really baffled that he has not been able to play for so the entire training camp and preseason? Should we be worried? I know I am at the very least a little worried at this point

He has a concussion, so yeah. He's been making progress but isn't there yet.

As great as that Nashville game was, I hope they play Hammond and we hit double figures.

Concussions don’t have a set timeline. It’s not like you jut sit out because the doctor gave you a note to not go to work for 3 weeks.

I don’t wish what this kid is going through on anyone. Concussions are terrible.

I'm just saying I have never seen a NFL or NCAA football player out for more then a week maybe 2 in serious situations but never multiple months on a concussion. And IMO NFL hits are as hard as NHL so that's why I'm confused.

Concussions are different for every single person that gets them. Sometimes you get a concussion and in a week or two everything is back to normal. Sometimes it takes months on months to get better. I mean Crosby missed like 4-5 months back in like 2011 or something like that with post concussion symptoms.
