Rumor: 2018-19 Kings News/Rumors/Tidbits

I’m dying reading the main boards threads about moving Colin Miller or McNabb for first round pics or as part of a greater plan to acquire Karlsson from The Sens. If we only had the foresight to see these two perennial Norris trophy candidates before we traded them away! I know they are not garbage but EK or 1rst round bait?!?!

The eyeball test was more useful than advanced stats. Shore lacked any sort of testosterone in his game. He might as well have been out there painting or doing jazzercise. And yes I'm making a sweeping assumption. Sometimes you have to look at these players and think about if they do any one thing really well. If the answer is no they will not be long for the NHL game. If you go down the list of dreadful players who donned the Kings jersey you will find most fans will fail to come up with one aspect of the game the player excelled in.

Even Dwight King did one thing really well, and that was his board play. It got him 2 rings and some solid contracts. Shore is like potato on bread, bland as hell. He is solid defensively, but not so much that he is a standout.

Karlsson on Vegas would be unbelievable. Vegas was already a top 5 offense last season, adding him would send them over the edge. I thought they were going to be real good last season (not as good as they ultimately were) and I think they'll be good again next season. I wouldn't be surprised at all if they finish higher than the Kings. A Wild Bill/Marchessault/Smith/Karlsson/Miller power play unit would be filthy.

Shore as a tan crayon is the best description ever. I think it's fair to say he didn't do one thing exceedingly well but his brain kept him as an excellent defensive 4th liner in the league so far. But trash teams don't really have a need for a guy like that anyway, and better teams probably have someone better.

Buy Ryan Reaves and Nic Dowd have contracts so making fun of SHore as "not an NHLer" (when he's likely to get a tryout) when objectively worse players have jobs is bad measurement of playing ability.

But for people comparing to the 2012 team, 6 years is a friggin eternity in sports. 2011 Boston Bruins had Nathan Horton and Mark Recchi in their top 5 of scoring and Michael Ryder behind them. Remember Bryan Bickell going nuclear with the 2013 Hawks, as well as Handzus, Roszival, Sharp, Kruger, etc rounding out their depth? It's not just like those players suddenly got bad, father time comes for everyone but much more swiftly and harder for the middle class players.

Where I wouldn't count Vegas out they had multiple players with career years. But the question should be asked was it a fluke or is that there new normal?
Of course if I had that answer I'd be making a mint.

Vegas without Kneel and Perron should be basement teams this year.

Kings buying out Sharipzyanov. How many contracts were we at. Could this be to make room for a contract? Or just cutting ties with the player?

What is this about? We're buying out who? And what is the recapture penalty?

Who??

Even at the risk of fronting myself off, I have no idea who this is or why we would be buying him out?

Per CapFriendly we're only at 40 contracts so not sure the purpose other than just flat-out cutting ties? He was already playing in the KHL, not taking spots from kids here, and not eating excess contract spot...

You don't remember eye chart?

Played in the AHL for us last year, got loaned to a KHL team. Looked good at a camp, but I guess didn't progress appropriately.

Thanks, RJ. I have zero recollection of him, but I also have burned way too many braincells in the interim time from last camp to now, at least to remember a player such as he.

I didn't mean it as snark @Cook24, I was genuinely confused, brother.

I imagine the buyout is very minimal damage to the cap?

Thornton 5mio/1yr. I wonder if Joe Thornton holds the record for being the most polite hockey player?
I mean he's known for handshakes in lines...

:D

Honestly, good for the Sharks if he can stay healthy.

Personally I think they utterly failed in signing Thornton this early. It was a forgone conclusion that Thornton would return; they should have signed their RFAs and gone after a big fish like Karlsson + Ryan before signing Thornton. You know that Thornton would sign a ceremonial deal of like 1 mil to be on the team if they traded for Karlsson. Wilson just basically gave up much of the cap space flexibility he worked hard to clear.

Crazy that he gets the same contract coming off probably is best season in the NHL.

Even crazier that the Kings couldn't do that and are simply saying that they don't have the room.

You can look at it as Voynov smoke but it might just be that they don't want to lose a waivers-eligible defenseman coming out of camp. Can't be a money thing since it is so cheap and only one year.

Can Brickley go up and down freely? I think both LaDue and MacDermid have to clear waivers now, as would Phantomberg. Still in a position to lose someone but would be more susceptible if Folin was here.

Forbort/Doughty
Phanuef/Martinez
Muzzin/LaDue
MacD or Phantom

Even if he is destined for Ontario, I'm going to be pissed if MacD is lost.
