Actually what the Pens need is a vet defensman, JMFJ has been brutal, Schutlz is out for a few more months and poor Maata is struggling badly. Maybe Blake should see how much Rutherford would give for AMart.
I will throw in Martinez for a 2nd and another decent prospect.

Martinez on Pittsburgh would be fun. His value is probably about the same as Muzzin since he has an extra year on his contract. Muzzin's the better player but a free agent after the 2019-20 season.

I'd like to see Quick and Carter get traded just to show the team no one is save, shed some long contracts, and move on from dying stars.
We don’t always agree. But a shakeup hockey trade seems to be in order. And yes, on paper it might look like we got screwed

I can’t believe there are not some teams we could our trade D with for some more F. I think the ego of our front office is that we think we’re getting the short end. We are not in a position of power bargaining. Take your medicine.

It's time to trade for futures not for help in the present. These players with long term NMC contracts have played their way into this position. If they don't like it, too bad.

We need present not more draft picks. We've seen the brutal picks this organization missed on.You can rebuild on the fly.But first they need to fire Steven's and get a new system then toy with the roster by overhauling it.

Nope, it's time to hold the players accountable. If Kopitar and Doughty don't like it, they can ask for a trade. Their contracts are long enough. If the Kings start the rebuild now, Doughty and Kopitar will still be around in 4-5 years to contribute to a better team with players much younger than them.

Theres no guarantee that the Kings will draft well enough to compete in 4 or 5 years.Blake needs to fire Steven's get another head coach with a new system. Then figure out what your needs are.Blowing it up is not what Blake should be doing.

What have we seen over the past 4 seasons? It is time to blow it up.

I agree that this team has a couple of holes on it,I agree the leadership should lose its roles.I support the firing of Stevens. But i dont have any faith that this team will be competitive in 4 to 5 years by simply blowing it up and drafting. We can retool fire Steven's and get some leadership back on this team.

Whether it is or not, you're certainly trading just about any player at their all-time low value right now.

I believe you have to change the coach before you shake the roster unless you're able to get equal value.
What guarantee is there that their stock will not drop further. A GM is either going to believe in Carter's long term resume, or he isn't. If I was Blake, I am not giving these guys another coach to s*** on without making some changes in player personnel.

If Vilardi's back will hold up (and it may well - look at Muzzin and others that had back injuries) JAD comes in next year, Kupari and if Brickley develops, this will not take 4 years.
Also if Blake can get 1 Iafallo each year; legit free agent performers. Brickley, Strand and Petersen may all be good. Vegas went to the finals on castoffs in their first season.
It's a mixture of luck and some slick moves. Clague may be good. Voynov spent 3 full seasons in the AHL.

I have asked around on the Quick rumor and one of anon scouts said that we have been asked by a couple of teams dependent on Q's ability to get his game back quickly. I asked who the teams were and heard the usual not saying but one of them has to be Philly. I don't know, I doubt we would take a goalie back or a D at this point. I guess if we have to we would but who knows.

He's got his cups, he loves LA , why would he want to move? It not like He's Hank or Luongo , chasing their 1st cup after a long career.
I don't know Quick's mind. He doesn't have an NTC. I doubt his contract is easily moved with 4 years beyond this season still on it. I think Quick is the ultimate competitor. If he goes to a true contender and is healthy, we may see him win another cup. Time is running short for him before further injury robs him of the skill necessary to win another cup.

I agree, but it also depends on now and how young a F is.

Interesting. We've been so lucky to have him. I will say if he's dealt, it would only be to help the team...and not truly sure if that's possible. However, Quick may have lost a little and he eventually will. Hope he does not have a groin injury. He's human. Since 2012, we KNOW we can win Cups, because we have a goalie that can win Cups...all the years with the Bob Janecyk's, Ron Grahame's, Jason LaBarbera, (there's probably 50) and on and on and even to Lombardi's first attempt to get someone decent - Dan Cloutier (barf)....we must think back to a time when winning a Cup was IMPOSSIBLE, with mediocre goaltending. You cannot win a Cup without it. However, Quick cannot last forever. Whether or not you believe he deserves to retire a King, so many players do not get that, deserving or not. One thing's for sure - this is going to be an interesting season. Seems like PAIN is coming, if the Kings do not start winning and winning a lot. I do not think a 30-40-12 season will be tolerated, without coaches fired and the breakup
of this team. It just won't be left alone. More is expected and with players that are 33 and 34 - Phaneuf, Brown, Carter, Thompson (bleh) and 35, Kovalchuk, "there is NO try"
There is only DO - as Yoda would say.

How could any GM tolerate a 30-40-12 season with this group and not blow it up? You can't just tinker and trade a Clifford or even a Martinez. If the Kings are out of the playoffs,
it's going to be a seller deadline. I have been through this since 1972-73 - my first season, so I can deal with this. Seen much worse. Much. That's a lifetime...and had 12-15 games televised a season!!! You would look at the sports page or TV guide and get excited if this month had 3 or 4 games televised!

This is only a season and it shall pass.

I honestly fully expect next season to be better, as the Vilardi's, Kupari's and JADs and others will make their mark and see a better brand of hockey. If the Kings are indeed sellers,
there will be other fresh talent and perhaps a top 10 pick that will make an impact NEXT year or the one after. It's either going to be blow it up, if out of the playoffs by end January,
or the Kings must go something like 40-22-11 from here. And I really do not think this is looking like the latter....

I would think it's unlikely they retain 50% for more than 1 year. Kopitar's raise for 16-17 was Lucic's 50% cap hit. Lombardi probably couldn't have gotten him for 2 years at 50%.

I would say that might be a lot to ask.

Fair enough, but you did say and/or. Still, taking Backes at 100% is tough to do because they don't have the space. Boston retained on Beleskey, and gave the Rangers Spooner and a late 1st, but Nash was a playoff rental. Spooner isn't doing much, and he's going to be 27 this year. The 1st, who knows what that turns into. Not much going back for the Rangers.

I'll agree with that. I believe the Kings are mostly rebuilding slowly, without full on tanking, because they can't properly tank with all the old contracts. Too much term.

The long contract and dying star part of that is what makes it tough to trade them. If they were UFA's at the end of the year, easy. They both have years left on their deals, and in a hard cap world, where other teams have their own RFA's to sign, whether it's this year, next year, 2 years from now, etc, and their own large contracts to their own vets, it makes it that much more complicated to try and do. Trades for the sake of trades, or sending a message, don't tend to happen anymore. Guys with long contracts tend to get traded for other guys with long contracts. The cap hangs over every deal.

I think a team like Nashville would take Quick and not re-sign rinne

Remember when Lombardi first came aboard - summer of 2006. He signed a bunch of vets. Then summer of 2007 he dealt a few of them. Norstorm, Sopel, Avery. Ward. The previous year he signed a bunch of vets to go with the youth and then he started dealing the vets. I think Blake should do the same; start dealing the old guys and getting picks or young players. Deal Carter, Thompson, Phaneuf, one of Martinez/ Muzzin. Just do it.
