Good luck with all that in a hard cap league for a bunch of underperforming players.

I figure over a 2-3 year period it’s a reasonable idea. You tell John Stevens that whether he keeps a job in the Kings .org is dependent upon how good he makes a player look that is on the trade list.

This really is a kick in the balls when it comes to our drafting record over the past 10 years:

"There are only three first round picks from their last 10 drafts currently suiting up for the team – Derek Forbort, Tanner Pearson and Adrian Kempe – and two of them were selected 29th and 30th overall. Apart from the first rounders, there are only three lineup regulars from any of the last eight drafts currently getting a regular shift in the NHL this season: Michael Amadio, Colin Miller and Valentin Zykov."

Waking up with the Kings: October 21 - LA Kings Insider

Hey look on the bright side:

Derek Forbort is tied in points with Anze Kopitar.

Let that putrescence sink in a for a minute...

anyone hear anything new about a potential 3rd jersey?

As far as I'm concerned, the Kings break down into the following categories (with a few crossovers):

Immovable Contracts:

Kopitar
Brown
Quick
Phaneuf
Doughty (arguably)

Desirable Players with Value:

Carter
Toffoli
Kovalchuk
Doughty

Marginally Desirable Players with Moderate Value:

Pearson
Muzzin
Martinez
Lewis

Waiver/Buyout Material with Little Value:

Clifford
Phaneuf
Forbort
Thompson
Fantenberg

Younger Players You Want to Keep for a Long Term Rebuild:

Iafallo
Kempe
Amadio
JAD
Vilardi
Etc.

A true, proper rebuild would look to find any takers for Kopitar and Brown. It's highly unlikely anyone is willing to take on those contracts, though. With someone like Quick, who arguably has more value to the Kings than anyone else, you really have to measure what you can receive in return. If someone desperately needs a goaltender, maybe you make the trade. Phaneuf is likely a King through 20/21.

Carter is obviously our biggest chip that should have been traded over a year ago. At this point, his value is vastly diminishing. However, he's on a great contract, and as long as he can remain moderately productive throughout this year, he will retain value. Kovalchuk and Toffoli are also prime deadline assets as long as they remain productive. However, teams may balk at Kovalchuk's term. We may be stuck with him through 20/21.

Pearson, Muzzin, etc. are all players who can fetch a mid-tier prospect/pick if dealt on their own. They're also decent complimentary players in a larger deal. It really depends on who is looking for what.

Rest of the team has negative value, or they're still young and valuable to the team in a rebuild. You may be able to sell high on a player like Iafallo, but it really depends on the return.

Management needs to be looking at everyone, top to bottom, to address value and plan a 3-5 year rebuild. If done right, the team could start to develop into a young contender again by 21/22. But that all depends on how big Blake's balls are, who he's willing to part with, who he's allowed to part with, and whether or not the higher ups continue to operate under the current delusion that this team is a contender.

What about a package of Pearson + a D (one of Martinez or Forbort) for Nylander? Too much from the Kings?

I think Muzzin + Pearson is too much.

No offence but not only is that an absolutely horrid proposal, the Kings stink and everyone and the league knows it. They have no leverage in any negotiation. Everyone is going to be trying to rob them blind, I have no idea how you could think that somehow you could pick up Nylander for peanuts when your team has no leverage. The fact that you even think Muzzin and Pearson is too much is frankly laughable and shows that you don't really know how good Nylander is. He's a top 10 RW at age 22. That is an untouchable asset. I'd recommend reading this: Is William Nylander undervalued? An analytical look suggests...

Nylander isn't being dealt without a Provorov/Werenski/Jones level defenseman coming back. Not Muzzin+some average winger. Dubas is probably Nylander's biggest fan in the world, and it sounds like they're coming to an agreement. But just fyi you can't acquire elite young wingers for scraps. It's like suggesting since the Kings are struggling and need help, Zaitsev+Brown for Vilardi+Thomas (Although not even that comparable, Nylander is a top 10 RW and Vilardi is an unknown. Same goes for Kadri. No reason to deal him, Leafs love him and he's on a bargain of a deal. Unavailable.

In my FF league I got offered Jordan Reed and Buck Allen for Travis Kelce.

I thought it was the worst trade offer I was going to see all week...

Sorry Johnny, but the Kings aren’t getting Nylander for Forbort and Pearson.

Everyone talks about rebuilding, like it's a sure thing, because it's worked for teams like Buffalo, Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Carolina, NYI, NYR, etc,

It's not a sure thing, I saw something somewhere on this board, poster said he would trade a 3-4 year run with cups, for a 5 year rebuild, for another 3-4 run with cups and then a rebuild etc, its not clockwork, it's not steady, and its not guaranteed like that.

Muzzin and Pearson have the same number of goals as Nylander. 18 games played 0 goals, 4 assists, -5, 25 shots on goal, 5 takeaways, 16 giveaways.

Sometimes you don't go into a rebuild by choice. Sometimes you're forced into it.

Agreed, I don't think we are there yet, some do, I get it, but everyone is so hyper-sensitive now that any mistake that happens is gigantic and a picture of the bigger problem yadda yadda yadda,
