If it's like 90% of Luc/Blake hires it will be someone who played for the Kings in the late 90'/early 00's.

Dave Joseph:"The Head Coach of your Kings is Bryan Smolinski, his assistants are Yanic Perreault and Vladimir Tysplakov"
hell, why not just ask Joseph to coach?

I would expect this will be the case if a coaching change is made, because it is all Luc Robitaille knows. Don't rule out Derek Armstrong for some type of position if Luc has the final say.

Don't worry though I'm sure Quickie, Kopi, Brownie, Dewey, Kovi, and whatever -ies Robitaille can think of will fix it. Dean made too many mistakes to stay, but I lament the drop in IQ of the management team.

I say kings forego defense this year, dmen pinches on every play, and everyone try and score as many goals as possible (Quick and Campbell can practice breakaways). Hopefully this will be enough for the tank, Kings can draft Hughes, and the coaching/staff relic from DL/DS days are tossed out with any player who doesn't have at least 20 goals by the end of the season.

well shit, we completely give opponents the zone by backing off the blue line anyway.. may as well accept constantly getting pinned in our own defensive zone and turn it around at the other end

It is important to remember defensemen are always going to back off at the blue line if the back check is non-existent. Not sure the Kings forwards have very good gap control right now.

it stinks like systemic movement to me though, you see both defensemen sliding back to the circles before the puck's even hit the red line, as if they're trying to match speed with someone who's not there. i agree there's no back check to be seen 9 times out of 10 but guys are skating in totally unabated and that's a problem

One thing I have noticed with guys like Wagner, JAD, and Rempal so far this year is when they are on the ice, they don’t look out of place at all. That gives me at least some hope. When they settle in they could easily grow into very effective players. Not game changers, but shift after shift of guys like that wear down the opposition.

Our dmen suck on pinching in no one is skillful enough to do so, they'll just shoot at someone's feet and it'll go back the other way.

Some of that is being unsure and thinking too much. It’s not automatic like before where the team knew where everyone would be. It used to be a huge strength and we would pin teams in, now is a complete mess of outnumbered attacks.

Well let's break it down.

Forbort is with Doughty, and Forbort is easily the worst at pinching and playing along the boards/passing.

Fanta is okay if he gets his shot in

Phaneuf is good

Martinez is good

Muzzin is very on and off, most of the times he's off now.

Not really much to brag about.

An underrated part of the Sutter System. D-man is able to be hyper aggressive because the Center man is always ready to back check. A fundamental part of his possession success.

So will the new coach be - Slow-Modry? Dan Bylsma? Tony (or Cami) Granato? Nelson Emerson? Kelly Buchberger? Or will Blakey do a solid to his former Avs teammates and go with Patrick Roy?

Roy would be interesting, the team would still suck under him, but it would be fun watching him lose the plot

Yes, when the Kings were at there best under Sutter the high forward in the offensive zone was backchecking immediately when the puck was turned over by the Kings in the offensive zone. Not only would the Kings defensemen not give up their own blue line if the gap between the backchecking forward and defense was tight, they frequently didn't give up the red line either forcing an icing or turning the puck back over in the neutral zone for a counter attack.

Kopitar is probably playing sick after watching last night's game.

Kopitar was sick.

Sick of this shit.

You saw that in the first period last night then inexplicably they stopped doing that.

I totally agree with that.

Part of the reason we looked up-tempo and relatively fast with Sutter was everyone was moving their feet executing one way or another.

For some reason, everyone freezes now. Lots not moving. Some is player execution, lots is systematic stupidity and bad breakdowns.

Clarify what you mean by systemic stupidity, because there is no system in the game right now, that says, stop moving your feet.

Get Mike Keenan out of Russia, either he or Torts would put a boot in the *** of some of the players. As my coach used to say, "Instead of mom and dad patting you on the back they should be smacking you a little lower to get the best out of you."

Ok, fair enough, curious, how does a coach fix that? What you are saying essentially is bad hockey IQ.....
Seriously? You say you have coaching experience. What would you do to fix it?

I know what my coaches from the past would do if the majority of the team was not executing what they were taught in practice.
