Team is pretty much set. I guess Thompson and JAD swap for one another depending on who we play. This will give JAD a chance to practice with the NHL team , travel and learn lot more even before his 9 games. Very smart move .

Most interested to see who plays over who Fanta or Ladue . I hope down the line they realize Clifford doesn’t bring much besides some good energy but he’s a culture guy it was inevitable he would be on the team. I like our team this year. Thompson makes it solely due to the fact that he is a veteran guy and great at face offs.

My guess would be they won't have JAD out there without Thompson until JAD shows he can win faceoffs in the NHL.

Not that Stevens plays the 4th line a lot. Especially young guys on the 4th line. But you don't want a Thompson-less 4th line caught out there on an icing.

Agreed. I feel much better knowing Lewis is on that 4th line . Makes us that much deeper. Probably go JAD-Thompson-Lewis or idk maybe JAD does play instead of Thompson and Lewis takes the face offs.

We don’t really have any dead weight. What is this strange feeling? Optimism?

Clifford and Thompson might belong to yesterday’s NHL, but they can still contribute on the fourth line. If Anderson-Dolan and Wagner can outproduce them, that would be incredible.

Wagner - JAD - Lewis

Sign me up.

Lewis shouldn't be taking faceoffs either unless absolutely necessary. Even last year, with no Carter, and Kempe at 38.5%, Lewis was still in the dot only 109 times. Same total as Laich, and he played 46 more games.

Yeah I know Lewis isn’t any good on the dots but at least he is probably top 3 defensive forwards on the Kings and would make the 4th line not be a liability. Rosen answered my question apparently Fantenberg is the 6th dman so Ladue will be 7th.

Forbort-Doughty
Muzzin-Martinez
Phaneuf-Fantenberg
Ladue

I like it at least Fantenberg is an offensive minded dman and Phaneuf can pick up the slack on D . More mobile defenseman is the new approach hence why fantenberg who might be a somewhat of a liability on defense is still making it in the NHL

What is it with these coaches and Muzzin-Martinez? Maybe the stats show improvement with that pairing from 2016 to last year but I still don't remember them passing the eye test

I haven't been following the pre-season at all, but I'm surprised Thompson has stuck going into this season. Don't remember seeing much from him at all last year.

If they are putting the best team out there with the best players from preseason...

F: Kopitar, Carter, Kovy, Toffoli, Pearson, Kempe, Brown, Iafallo, Lewis, Amadio, JAD, Wagner

D: Doughty, Muzzin, Martinez, Phanuef, Brickley, LaDue (Forbort gets a spot due to injury)

G: Quick, Campbell

Fighting for the last 2 spots (in order of winning spots)...

1)Etem
2) Clifford
3) Fantenberg
4) Thompson
5) MacDermid

If the Kings lose any of those guys; it wouldn't break the team

Thompson is a locker room guy
4th line grinder that takes garbage minutes. As much as I want to see my NHL 19 lineup, it just won’t happen. It’s all talk about four speedy lines until Clifford and Thompson are off the team. Just a fact.

Iafallo Kopitar Brown
Kovalchuk-Carter-Kempe
Pearson-Amadio-Toffoli
Clifford-Thompson-Lewis
Etem

Will be the forward lineup next Friday.

Wagner and JAD need actual minutes and not to ride the pine all year.

It goes back to losing Voynov, and having a tough time trying to find a replacement. There's that hole behind Doughty on the right side that has been basically impossible to fill, for any number of reasons. Your best 3D tend to play in your top 4. Put Muzzin with Doughty, and what's the 2nd pair? Put Brickley with Doughty, and what is the 2nd pair? Put Martinez with Doughty, and what's the 2nd pair? Forbort, and what's the 2nd pair? It's why all our hope has been placed in LaDue being the answer there. Then anyone can be put with Doughty, and you'd have a 2nd pair. Should older and slower Phaneuf be getting tougher minutes? There hasn't been a better alternative to Muzzin/Martinez. Which will make things more complicated next year when at least one of them probably won't be there.

He's got a 1 way contract at $1.65m in real money, and can win a faceoff. Vast majority of the time, all you have to do is look at the contracts and you'll know who will be on the team. That's not just the Kings being cheap, that goes for every team in the league.

I'm pretty f***ing over Stevens honestly. I shouldn't be this mad this early, but I am.

At least Brickley will be a FA after this season, so that's great. Why bother icing your best roster when you might lose a #8 d-man to waivers? Let's go ahead and continue to boat anchor Drew and keep forcing the chemistry-less roster full of LHDs instead.

That pairing highlighted "The Muzzin Flaw" with advanced stats, which is it doesn't matter how much you drive play consistently if your breakdowns are few but consistently catastrophic (also known as the Erik Karlsson corollary).

From a shot attempt differential standpoint, despite rough zone starts, they were statistically the best pairing in the league at driving play away from our net. However, when it came to goals for percentage, they were the worst pairing in the league by far, and we had front row seats to why.

Like, it's great that you had 12 shots for and 3 against. If those 3 are goals because Muzzin is centering the puck to the other team and breakways caused by bad communication and pinches...barf.

I'd hope for...

Forbort--Doughty
Phanuef--Martinez
Muzzin--LaDue
Fantenberg

If Forbort isn't ready after tonight's preseason game...run Brickley in that spot
Flip Muzzin and Forbort and I can get behind that.

I would go
Phaneuf-Doughty
Muzzin-LaDue
Forbort-Martinez
Fantenberg
But we’re splitting hairs. It’s a really good group on the back end. May we never see Muzzin-Martinez at 5vs5 ever again.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I find it interesting that Stevens wants to spread out the scoring for the forwards, but he doesn't want to do it for the defense?
