I’m one of the most negative people here, and even I don’t get worked up over preseason.

If they’re playing like this well into November, yeah, we got a problem.

I don't watch pre-season, been burned to much over the years from guys looking great or terrible and the exact opposite happening once the games matter. Refuse to have an opinion on Kovalchuk until regular season starts, but it wouldn't be shocking if he does turn out to be bad. He's 35 and been playing at a much lower level the past few years, this was never going to be a slam dunk.

I would definitely be surprised if he comes in and just stinks. KHL points translate pretty reliably with these top tier players at roughly 0.7 NHL points to 1 KHL points.

My biggest worry with Kovalchuk has always been his body. The NHL schedule is grueling, and he hasn’t played 80 games in a year since like 2012.

At the end of the day, though, he is 35. It’s ridiculous to expect him to be some gamebreaking player all year long. Maybe in flashes if he stays healthy, but not much more than that.

Way too soon to know if Kovalchuk will be consistently good, bad, or mediocre.

I will stand by what I said earlier. The Kovalchuk signing was a desperate move by a desperate front office trying to push the notion that the Kings are still Stanley Cup contenders.

I mean, why roll all vets on the PP including Thompson?? Lame.

At least they finally swapped Thompson for Amadio but where's, like, Clague? Give these guys a chance to play. Have all season to see Thompson the skating piano.
