I liked what I saw from Andersson. Thats what he should be doing, if he's going to make the NHL team out of camp.

Gettinger didn't play that well, he missed a good chance, and also had some fault on one of the Andersson goals, but its good that he's even this close to being on the US WJC team. I don't think he makes it, but having a 5th round pick close to making a WJC team is good.

Wasn't disappointed to learn that the Young GOAT is sick and couldn't play today. Brannstrom didn't play either. Sweden's really trying to field the worst defense that they can. They gotta get rid of some of these bad defensemen, kind of disappointing that Adam Boqvist isn't at this camp. They could have such a good defense at the WJC's.

One thing that stood out for me is that Lias is much shiftier than he gets credit for. Was very good at making that one extra move with a defender in front of him in order to gain the US blue line.

Was one of the 2 best players on the ice along with Quinn Hughes who was wheelin' all around the ice.

Please don't get drafted by the Devils.

I'm not particularly worried, I think he's good, but getting extremely overrated. Every team is given a first round pick each season. Of course they will get a first round talent, unless they trade away the pick or make a bad pick. Quinn Hughes is far from a player I'd be worried about the Devils drafting.

Yeah but I want them to take the wrong first round talent like they have been lately until this year

Disagree that he is overrated. Hes so ****ing good with the puck on his stick.

It is kind of funny how every year the Devils take a player way too high in the first round, usually a big player with limited skill, although this year they took more of a skilled player. They draft really well outside the first round, but I think they are the worst drafting first round team in recent years.

Thanks! To return the favor so to speak, I can let you know that we feel the same thing about Liljegren in a way, and think you guys got a real good pick there too.

Thanks, as you can tell our fanbase is excited about him, just as you guys are and should be about Andersson.

Did you mute your TV when Button compared Liljegren to Daley? :help:

I have learned over the years to take everything Button say with a grain of salt. Sometimes he has really good insight, but he can become Mr. Hot Take. Liljegren and Daley are horrible comparisons.

It is only one game that I have really followed Lias Andersson closely, but even if he hadn't scored tonight he would have been the best forward on the ice. I think you guys got someone with the complete package. I think if he has a good camp there is a good chance he could stick with you guys. There isn't really anything in his game that stood out as a glaring deficiency, and if I were you guys I would feel more confident in him panning out than Pettersson or Glass drafted before him. The Stepan trade could work out very well for you guys if this performance (minus 2 goals which of course is unrealistic every game) is indicative of his level of skill and compete.

Appsyl- Yeah I agree for sure on Button, I think the problem is that everyone is very very locked into the famous box. They have a preconceived notion that has developed and been formed between and impacted by everyone raising their opinion during the extreme scrutiny that these kids face up to the draft.

Take Elias Pettersson for example, he is not skating well at the WJSS. When Lias sent him on that semi breakaway he moved fairly well, but nothing out of the ordinary. Still Button said something like "there he goes displaying that great speed he has" IIRC. I've only seen him in last year's WJCs when I didn't follow him that closely and these games. I could be wrong on him, but right now he isn't skating well nor playing well at all. Anyone with a good hockey eye can see that just watching him a period. Why is Button claiming that he skates well? Its because of that preconceived notion. It hangs in there several years after the draft too...

PB- Gettinger is never going to play that "well" unless he is part of an unit that really suits him, his potential is extremely cemented to at best become that big sized role player that can compete along the boards, in front of the net, get the puck to his center and play well on the PK.

As such, I think he is doing OK for sure.

Agree with Ola that Gettinger did not had a bad game. It's all about a context. Of course he didn't play as good as our 7OA pick but this is what he did:

1. Yeah, he missed on a scoring chance but he quickly recovered and was able to set up a teammate for another opportunity
2. He had a partial breakaway where he was able to generate a deceptively good shot that the Swedish goalie had some problems stopping
3. He had at least 3 (timely) hits where he didn't leave his team exposed to a contra-attack
4. He showed some good forecheck

So, not a bad game overall for him IMHO, however it's clear that he will require a lot of further development to be able to catch up to the speed of a pro game (I think he would definitely struggle initially in the AHL), he needs to make some improvements to his straight away speed, improve a lot in his shiftiness and puck control.

There was a lot of gushing over LA and rightfully so. He played well.

It seemed like the puck followed him around.

This is the first time I have ever watched him play apart from highlight films and I was impressed. Seems to be really good at maintaining possession, and won almost every puck battle. Looks to me like we picked a good one

One thing I like about that second goal is that he kept moving and he kept going to the net. When his teammate gets the puck at the top of the circles, Andersson skates down the slot towards the net. After that he clears out to the side but doesn't just stand around, he starts back towards the net and the rebound bounces right to him there.

Nice to see that LA and our other young guys are strong through the neutral zone and can carry the pill with speed. It's not an easily teachable skill and it really helps drive play for and against

give him a nyr jersey and let him start the season with the big boys. if hes one of the best 12 forwards, let him play.

9 games. put up or go home.

I think his head is at the NHL level currently. You can tell he understands the game at a different level. My concern is his lack of an explosive first step and that is just age. He needs some time to build up his leg muscles. His hands seem very strong (ala Miller who seems to win a lot of those stick on stock battles)

put me solidly in the camp that believes 9 games after camp breaks isnt going to ****** his development and in fact may well show us weve got a kid who can play meaningful minutes.

as long as he's just a tad faster than derek "cheetah" stepan, im all good.

I'm not too concerned with games 0-30. I'm more concerned with as his body gets banged up and season progresses will he slow down more. Fatigue will happen with him.

For those who've been watching him, who would his ideal line mates be? Assuming if he sticks he'll be the 3C.

Ideally i'd want Fast on his RW to help stabilize the line defensively, Fast is injured though :/

Maybe just give him Zuke on his RW to start? Like, we should try to protect him a bit so give him Zuke or Nash on one wing then whoever on the other.

that happens to all players.

his build is very solid, thick frame and his conditioning seems very good. seems to me he plays a very mature game and has a pro body right now.

im not looking past 10 games. if he continues to impress right through camp, and he's legitimately one of the best 12 forwards, i would let him play.

i think his game projects well. i hope im right.
