Desjardins doesn't even have a contract, not yet worried about him being on the opening day roster

If Holden is going to be kept around as just a spare, yeah, he should be moved while he still has some value and other teams are trying to fill out their rosters.

That doesn't mean that he isn't better than Staal or that he shouldn't be playing over him. There were a hand full of options at camp who out performed Staal. I didn't expect any of them to actually beat him out for a spot, but thats the reality of the situation.

If this team is trying to win, Staal shouldn't even be in the equation. I get that there is some tact to slowly reducing his minutes and then eventually sitting him more often than not as the season progresses, but we don't have a coach who is likely to do that and even if he were, playing him will have probably cost this team a few valuable points in the standings, even at 12 minutes a night (and I bet he plays more.)

What options?

How has deangelo looked in pre-season? Haven't been able to catch many games/reports. I used to follow this team very closely until the league went soft

Damn the league for being concerned about the health of its players.

Don't worry about their brains being scrambled as long as people can see big hits and punches.

We have 13 forwards right now and no more preseason games.

He made the opening day roster.

That's what I've been saying. I know he has no contract, and AV said today that they will continue to see how he does in practice...but why not keep another guy up to compete with Desjardins unless it has already been determined that Desjardins is staying???

I pray we're just misreading the situation, MH. Sure is a strange move.

Well, what players? I don't think Beargloves out performed him. Pionk? Sure but again, the guy has never played an NHL game, let alone on his off side. No coach would make that move.

I would play Gusta on his off side over Marc Staal, but that's just me

eh these guys now what they sign up for, very few players were fighting because they were jumped, guys who fought did so because they choose to. This is an entertainment business. I'm not trying to get off topic but the league was far more entertaining 5 years ago than now and ratings reflect that.

Any idea what the lines are this year? and do we have any players who can chuck em?

Pionk, Graves, Holden and Kampfer (who was his own special brand of terrible) all had better camp than Staal.

Pionk is a Right defenseman. Isn't Graves as well? Again, no coach will play a rookie on their off side. Holden I get. He should start over Staal. Kampfer? That is going from the frying pan to the fire.

Thankfully you are not the coach.

Than why has everyone else been sent down...leaving him as #13; or even worse...leaving Carey as #13 and Desjardins in the opening night line-up?

Or they can go into the season and just roll 12 forwards. They may have not felt comfortable letting any of the guys they sent down sitting as an extra (which is the right call.) If a player gets hurt, a call up is not hard to make.

Once Fast returns, Carey sits. Problem solved.

If Desjardins does get signed, he won't survive being cut once Fast comes off of IR.

Graves is a LD.

You could have easily moved Smith to the left side to make room one of the righties. They messed with it during the pre season.

You're reaching. The Rangers always carry 13 Forwards.

Thought it was pretty apparent that Lettieri could really benefit from some seasoning by getting big minutes in Hartford instead of getting 4th line minutes or used as a spare in the NHL. I am assuming Desjardins is just a placeholder for now, and if there are any long term injuries they will call someone up instead of committing to playing him more than a game here and there.

Pionk definitely earned his spot from what we saw in the preseason games, but I am also ok with him getting big minutes in Hartford for a little bit.
