He'd have to be exceptionally bad not to make it.
I fully expect him to make it (and I expect Hännikäinen to make it too), but I don't think he has a similarly guaranteed spot as Aho, Rantanen and Filppula.

Hännikäinen is interesting. Needs to be one of the best players on these EHT games to make it, but got a feeling he will make it.

Hintz has some kind of chance to make it for a backup. Has to look good on EHT as well.

Our goalie situation looks pretty grim. I'd take Korpisalo right now and maybe one more goalie after playoff round 2. I think Rask will decline if Boston is out after first round. I'm guessing Dallas goalies weren't asked or declined.

Weird choice: JMA. Hard to see what he could bring right now. With the other Aaltonen, Palola, Pulju, plus of course Aho and Rantanen - and potentially Haapala, don't exactly have a serious need for his unique abilities either.

Oh god. I really don't want JMA of this season. Not even for a backup spot.

Maybe one day in the future I want him back but it's a bad sign of selecting a veteran like that when there's only little time left. As if he was promised something more than just 3 EHT games. I hope I'm wrong.

If Rask is out of the question and both Dallas goalies are no-show, then I suppose the plan is to have Säteri/Ortio initially and wait to see if either the Rangers or Preds get eliminated on round 2. Raanta or Saros at least shouldn't be fatigued.

The thing is, it's probably a fool's errand to hope for more than one from overseas.

I doubt that Rask participates, but still interested in hearing if the following guys will come: Koivu, Lehkonen, Rask.

Our gold/goal is releagation escape in this years Worlds.
I have zero trust for Marjamäki,his system and his staff.

Normally,..what ever the roster they come up with,
i know (believe) we can finish in top 4,because of our
superior coaching versus other teams and compact
team play/spirit,now...oy vey :( .

Our roster compared to others with bad coaching =
recipe for disaster.

Hey,i hope i'm wrong,but unfortunately
i'm afraid that i'm not :( .

Marjamäki is a great coach, just look at his CV.

Sure, the WC didn't go well but that's the only important tournament he has had thus far.

Really hoping that Pulju will be on the team as well as the other available youngsters. The same old vets year after year gets boring.

JMA scored his last goal in february. He was so bad in the liiga semifinals that he watched the dedicating match from press box.

And now he was taken to the camp.

Late wtf are you doing?

So Pokka isn´t coming. Haven´t heard anything about him. Now he wasn´t that good last year, but he was in too big role. And the World Cup was too big tournament for him at this point (didn´t really watch that much of it, but so people has told me). But for this team he would have solid chance.

Not a fan of JMA´s selection. But then again I can remember some players rewarding these kind of selections. From the past I remember how bad Jutila was at some of his late years (well the numbers were still good but his overall game and shape not that much) . And despite critique got selected. Earmed even some All-Star selections in tournament. Not sure if JMA is that sort of player though.

Right now, my only concern is the lack of a proven netminder. (Which, of course, isn't to say the ones we have are necessarily garbage, they're just unproven - just like Koskinen was 'til last year.) We have at least adequate talent to plug every other hole there is to plug.

I know history is something of an unknown concept in HFBoards (and when it's brought up, it's usually highly selective), but we've done some pretty mean things with even lesser teams.

Not even Lehkonen?
Nobody's declined 'til we hear from them. Seems like we have bit of a Finnish "boys, we've lost this game" -mentality going on. Ah, god, this place can be so darn moody sometimes.

That being said, Koivu and Rask seem somewhat unlikely.

I also think that some people are giving up too early. I got a good feeling about this team and Marjamäki will finally show that he's a good coach as men's NT coach as well with a proper long player camp and a lot of practices which he is used to as a long time Kärppä coach. He gets so many of his former Kärppä players and knows how to use them so he will get the best out of them and gives certain players right roles and builds the team properly. As long as JMA is not in the playing roster I believe in the squad.

Of course someone like Sweden will be a difficult opponent for Finland with all the elite defenders they've got, but we might not even face them in the playoffs. I expect a medal and don't know the color, but I think it's going to happen.

Puljujärvi - Aho - Palola
Rantanen - M.Aaltonen - Filppula
Pihlström - Sallinen - Osala
Hännikäinen - Kemppainen - Pyörälä

Filppula has been center all season and Aho has been winger all season and both had good seasons, so I don't see the point of forcing that U-20 Aho-Puljujärvi thing yet. I hope that we could see those 2 on the same PP unit though.

Armia, Barkov & J. Jokinen are injured? Have Niemi / Lehtonen been invited? Why Ristolainen is not going?
Barkov and Jokinen have injuries. Armia apparently has some minor bumps too, but we haven't heard any official declination yet - though it doesn't look good.

The goalie situation is always a little unique because only one can play, and they're looking to get the best possible name. Starter level goalies don't usually bother to show up if there's a chance they end up being backups. I think there'll be some clarity to this once we hear what Rask intends to do. There's been no official declination from Lehtonen or Niemi either.

Ristolainen... guess he just wasn't motivated enough. Or something. Oh well, it's not like NT participation is mandatory for available players.

The roster in Finland is bumming me out a bit. I am hoping at least one of The Wild players would join.

Also why not take a chance on Olli Juolevi? I am sure he'd be motivated to play since he probably would like to impress the Canucks' management.
