The roster in Finland is bumming me out a bit. I am hoping at least one of The Wild players would join.
Granlund and Haula are contractless. So that leaves Koivu. And you never know with these older guys, whether they're in the mood or not.

Also why not take a chance on Olli Juolevi? I am sure he'd be motivated to play since he probably would like to impress the Canucks' management.
I guess Juolevi having nothing but a junior hockey pedigree is the deciding factor here. I don't necessarily fully agree with the sentiment, but games in a grown mens' league tend to be a requirement for the grown mens' NT.

No Lehkonen or Rask per MTV3.

Lineup at todays practice:

Sebastian Aho - Valtteri Filppula - Jesse Puljujärvi
Mikko Rantanen - Roope Hintz - Miro Aaltonen
Mika Pyörälä - Joonas Kemppainen - Juhamatti Aaltonen
Markus Hännikäinen - Antti Pihlström - Oskar Osala
Sakari Manninen - Tomi Sallinen - Olli Palola

Topi Jaakola - Julius Honka
Veli-Matti Vittasmäki - Juuso Hietanen
Tommi Kivistö - Ville Lajunen
Lasse Kukkonen - Atte Ohtamaa
Joonas Järvinen

Harri Säteri
Joni Ortio

PP

Filppula - Pyörälä - Kemppainen - JM.Aaltonen - Lajunen
Puljujärvi - Aho - Rantanen - M.Aaltonen - Honka

Aaltonen and Lajunen on PP instead of Hietanen and Palola? Hopefully this is just giving them are fair shot at the EHT games..

Considering the players that we have now, I would go with:

Aho - Filppula - Puljujärvi
Palola - M Aaltonen - Rantanen
Pyörälä - Kemppainen - JM Aaltonen
Pihlström - Sallinen - Osala
extra: Hännikäinen, Hintz

Honka - Jaakola
Hietanen - Järvinen
Kivistö - Lajunen
Kukkonen - Ohtamaa

Säteri
Korpisalo
Ortio

JM Aaltonen is like Pihlström in the sense that he always performs well in important world championship games. The key here is the role everyone is playing in their line. Finland has done well in the past with worse teams than this one

This team is a good mix of experienced old and young promising players. Lots of them have played for Marjamäki and know his system well

It's cool to see Marjamäki give Pulju one heckuva chance there. It's no harm done at this stage. If things don't work out they can always swap Rantanen there.

Hintz is given a similar shot. WTG Late. At least you aren't shafting the new guys from the get-go.

I think we can safely say that our PP units are experience vs young guns. I hope that young guns can be the PP1:

Filppula - Pyörälä - Kemppainen - Juhamatti Aaltonen - Lajunen
Puljujärvi - Aho - Rantanen - Miro Aaltonen - Honka

I'm pretty bummed about Lehkonen declining twice in a row now. Makes me sad that I can't expect some of my favorite players Lehkonen and Ristolainen to be in WHC in the future either. They may have similar attitude in the years to come or they might be in playoffs or have real injuries cause now they have no injuries. I don't believe for a second what GM Jere Lehtinen said about Lehkonen being really injured.

Any source about Lehkonen being a no show?

Marjamäki said that Filppula is assistant captain, so I guess it's pretty clear who the captain will be in WHC if M.Koivu doesn't come - Lasse Kukkonen. I was hoping that Filppula would get the honors of being captain but this is probably best for Marjamäki for the communication flow they learned during their Kärppä years together.

When must they name the official roster?

I hope they let a goalie spot open for saros or ranta

players don't will come I think :shakehead

Have there been any statements recently about Lehtonen, Armia, Donskoi, Pokka or I. Filppula are going to participate in the WHC?

tried to find anything fresh about these players in the post but couldn't find any :/

I think the official ruling is that teams must name 2 goalies and 15 skaters by the opening day. A total of 3 goalies and 22 skaters can be named.

The first real tune up game before the worlds tonight.

39 is much better number for Pulju than 98. Hopefuly he goes with that in NHL too.

Dont think so buddy, he hopefully is a stud in the makings and deserve to be one of those franchise players that wears his birth year. Self confidence dont seem to be lacking, which is a good start.

So, who impressed and who did not?

Säteri was good in net (maybe 3rd goal was a bit weak).

On defence the bright spots were Vittasmäki and Honka. I really hope Vittasmäki will get a spot before Kukkonen and Jaakola. Honka's skating is so smooth and he's really calm with the puck.

From offence I really liked the second line (Hintz - Aaltonen - Rantanen). Aho was great on first line, but I didn't see that much chemistry from him and Filppula & Puljujärvi. If Koivu decides to come, I'd drop Filppula to the second line and put Aaltonen on the wing (Aho-Koivu-Pulju, Aaltonen-Filppula-Rantanen). On third line Kemppainen was pretty much the only one I noticed on positive way. J-M Aaltonen was really bad IMO. Fourth line was really solid, although Osala took way too many penalties.

I was impressed by Hannikainen, (didn't have much of expectations from the very beginning) then Honka, Rantanen. Other than that it was meh. Wasn't impressed at all of Puljujarvis game. He refused to drive the play and didn't use his speed a single time during the game. Obviously it was his first game in Europe, but I guess everyone was expecting for something exceptional from him and signs of improvement.

yea Pulju's positioning was bad, he was swift in his movement for a big guy but he used it so inefficiently he was mostly just chasing the puck.
