Oh, damn, nice start for Team Canada.

Winning Gold medal third year in a row could be also part of a motivation for certain players. As well as NHL decision towards OG.

The regular season ends on Sunday. I'm sure we can expect to hear much more in the next week. Can't wait.

disappointing season for Matt and Nate. I would have been okay with either one or both taking a pass, but good on them for again stepping up. Really hoping now that Drouin accepts an invite.

Edmonton went from 1st.rd cannon fodder to opening rd. favorites v. the Sharks. If that's how it plays out, then Jones would be a decent goalie option. Burns is too much of a get...but you never know. you just never know.

Any news on Doughty? has he threatened to punch any reporters in the face for suggesting he play in the WHC?

One thing with Burns is that he has spoken glowingly about this tournament before. I'm not going to search out quotes right now, but after the 2015 tournament he talked about liking the tournament and how that was the biggest (and only) thing he had won in his career to that point. To be fair, he also talked about wishing that the tournament was shorter because there are many irrelevant games. I wouldn't consider him to be likely (coming off the finals last year and the gimmick tournament) but I do think there would be a chance.

Doubtful with Doughty, but who knows. Never expected Crosby in 2015 either.

Crosby said that he usually declined invitations to the world championships because he was not completely healthy (Hand injury)
Doughty is another case.

Doughty simply doesn't care about this tournament, he will probably rather go on vacation, I think that he even has stated something along those lines. I'd be nearly shocked if he went.

I saw the interview when the L.A. reporter asked him if he was contemplating going to the WHC. The look of rage on his face was worse than when Tkachuk took a flying leap at his head last week. I thought he was going to punch the reporter in the nose. and I'm not kidding. He answered angrily. Why would I want to do that?

Every year he's available I wish he'd just suck it up and go. He's a winner and 1 of my favs.

This interview was a year ago?

Very nice. Have to respect those guys. They've all played in this tournament at least once in the last two years, at least twice already overall and they've all had extended seasons. It seems like the tournament is being viewed in a more positive light by the young Canadian players.

Canada should at least have two credible forward lines now. Watching Winnipeg earlier, wouldn't mind seeing Little get an invite. Not sure if he would go, but he's a very good player for this level.

Hey, I was bang on about Schief!!!

I knew he would go.

Wowza, big start.

Honestly I'm not sure surprised, I've seen the posts saying that Doughty has been against the tournament, but I remember him asking to be on it like 3 years ago but getting turned down by the doctors.

I don't remember that. I remember Benn in that situation, and Rielly. Spezza specifically asked Hockey Canada to pick him and was turned down in 2011ish. For at least the last two years I believe I recall that Doughty just refused.

impossible. 2014 Playoff run.
2015 missed POs. declined invite.
2016 out in 5 declined. wanted to punch reporter for suggesting he should play. that's my interpretation of his death stare when asked about it.

I don't ever recall him pulling the I'd like to but no medical clearance reason. Acceptable reason if that was indeed the case. I don't recall that being the situation though.

Well, admittedly memory is not the best indicator of history, but I swear it did happen. It's possible I'm being an honest liar.

Bear with the big scoop. Nice. This is Canada's biggest score on defence since getting Keith in 2012. No reason that this team shouldn't win now. Just hoping for a competent coach... hopefully Peters.

One star guy on defense does not make us a front runner to win, we need to see what we fill it out with yet.

Doughty is a hell of a start though, I cannot argue that.

scheifele and pearson back together again. should be interesting.

Doughty, Scheifele, MacKinnon and Duchene do make Canada a front runner at this point. Unless the Canadian players become D team level and the other nations get way better than they usually do Canada is in exceptional shape right now.

Lets wait and see what the goaltending situation is like.

Can't see a goaltender so horrific that this team isn't a front runner. Canada dominated in 2015 with Mike Smith. I'm not calling this team a lock to win, though they probably should assuming reasonable additions, but realistically with a core of Doughty/Scheifele/Duchene/MacKinnon it is a front runner. Russia could possibly send a more talented team depending on how things fall for them, but I can't see it for the other nations.

No question it is a good start but a far cry from making a statement that with these four players we already "should" win.

Too much of an early reach without seeing what other players we get and what other teams will have on hand.

Need to pump the brakes a little bit Jack.

Wonder if Bill Peters gets the call to coach again? Jeff Skinner would fit in nicely on one of the top 2 lines as well.

With reasonable additions and typical additions to the other teams, this team absolutely should win. Same as how the 2015 team should have won (it did) and the 2013 team should have won (it didn't). Should is not a guarantee. If the players that complete this team end up being a big load of crap, then I will certainly admit my error and scale back my optimism.

Well that's reasonable,lol.

Anyway, it's a great start, let's see what else we and others get and stack ourselves against the competition before the tourney begins, that is always fun.

Oh, and has it really been CONFIRMED that Doughty will indeed play?
