Also sounds like Giroux is still pretty hurt, so no Tavares or Giroux.
and my roster took another hit with the Tavares injury last night. Given the history with what happened at Sochi, I doubt NY gives John the green light to trot off to Europe now.
The good news is, Leafs will, in all likelihood, take out the Sens. so, Hoffman Turris and Stone going would be decent.
What do you think about chances
Jonathan Huberdeau ?
Giroux can accept invite

"The Flyers haven’t been officially eliminated from the playoffs in the Eastern Conference, but their odds are slim. After being the 13th forward for Canada’s team in the World Cup, it would make sense for club management to ask Flyers captain Claude Giroux to represent the country at the world championships in Paris on May 5-21. Giroux, who makes his off-season home in Ottawa, didn’t want to discuss that possibility Tuesday but he’ll certainly get an invite. “For sure, Team Canada has a good organization and they take care of the players very well, but it’s not the time to think about that,†Giroux said Tuesday."
Let's not forget that Stone and Gallagher were not 100% healthy before the tournament last year, and still wanted to play and hoped to recover in time. The same for Subban, but he eventually couldn't go. Benn is a good and optimistc reminder that even a star player who is struggling with injuries may still think about going overseas. And with Tavares' interest to represent in 2015, who knows, I'm not writting him off yet. With the fact that Hextall is likely to be the GM for this team, I wouldn't writte Giroux off either. A really interesting case for me is going to be Jeff Carter, and I am hopefull that he could go.
MacKinnon went in 2015 after having a similar injury near the end of the season. If Tavares really wants to go then he likely can, but he has an incredibly easy out.

The MacKinnon injury in '15, was it a hamstring? I thought it was a twisted ankle, or something along those lines. J.T. has got 5 weeks to recover. Fingers crossed, but I'm guessing he's a no.
Even if the LA players opt out, I'm thinking Minny gets bounced and Oilers take out Calgary. Oil playing Flames in the opening rd.? That could very well be the best hockey we see anywhere this year. and Pitt doesn't get beyond CBJ. Sid says no, but Murray and Dubnyk carry the mail to a 3-peat.

oh, and I meant to mention a few weeks back re: J MARCHESSAULT, I know you are not that high on him, but I think he would do just fine here. I think he could handle the WHC just fine. but either him or Point would be just fine by me.
Carter this year would be more surprising for me. He's got nothing to prove to Hockey Canada, his history indicates that he's not big on this tournament and he has a new baby.
Membership in Triple gold club good motivation)
Good calls on the first two, I remember being quite surprised when Stone agreed to play. Carter this year would be more surprising for me. He's got nothing to prove to Hockey Canada, his history indicates that he's not big on this tournament and he has a new baby.
I believe that MacKinnon had a broken foot. With regard to Dubnyk, I've never liked his work internationally, and his whining act last time he played in this tournament and was beaten for the starting job didn't impress. I would certainly take Murray over him. That team would be the likely favourite, but I'm expecting a team of lower quality.
Now that the playoff races are pretty much decided outside of maybe Tampa Bay squeaking in, I am hoping that Hockey Canada gives Peters another look for head coach. He did a very good job last year and his NHL team plays better than their roster indicates they should. The only other particularly good coach I see outside the playoffs is Sutter, and he doesn't strike me as the ideal guy to go over to Europe for this tournament. If Hextall is the GM I hope that he doesn't just pick his own coach... I don't really like whatever Hakstol is trying to do in Philadelphia.
Beggars can't be choosers in this tournament, but he just doesn't impress me. I would definitely prefer Point.
I doubt it. I think that Matt Duchene is the only Canadian player I've ever heard bring up that particular "honour" unprompted, and he is a big stat/history guy. Usually it seems to be the IIHF itself that brings it up, though to be fair TSN mentions it sometimes now. If Carter was strongly motivated by that, he likely would have gone to the tournament in 2015 or 2016.
Perry " Everyone dreams of getting into a triple gold club"
"This is my dream"
I very much doubt the validity of those quotes. In the Perry interviews I saw from last year he seemed pleased enough to have won when TSN asked him about it, but he certainly didn't call it his dream or even act like it was his primary motivation. I really doubt that any Canadian players dream of the world championship under any circumstances.
These quotes were in Perry's interview in the Russian sport- press.
