I don't have a problem with Clifford per se and what he does . I don't take him for granted I just think he is overpaid even though it's not much it still makes a difference. We need all the cap space possible .

We have about 6mill cap space spare at the moment, i'm not seeing how Cliffords 1.6 is a problem.

Kopi scored 12 goals last year for 10mill
Clifford scored 6 goals last year for 1.6mill

Without Clifford's cap hit we will have 8.4 in cap space. After we add a 3rd line center we desperately need and Doughtys raise to come we will have no cap space again. So we can enjoy Brown and Cammy as first line wingers.

We have plenty of cap space for Doughty's extension. His extension kicks in two years from now. that's 2 years of cap increases. a $2 million increase each year and that right there is enough.

If it isn't, then Greene's buyout cap hit of $833,333 also comes off the books in time to be applied to Doughty's contract. From the two cap increases and the Greene money, that's probably around $5 million.

We will probably have $5.75 million in space going into the season after the roster gets to 22, maybe $5 million or just under at 23.

I think we have a few 3 c possibilities in house. Nic Dowd, Adrien Kempe or Michael Amadio or perhaps G Valardi in the near future All of which are elc cheap contracts. Cap space isn't that needed right now.

So many teams are looking for a 3C that the asset cost to get one will be too high. Our best bet as KingC pointed out is finding one internally.

Ok I can get behind this I feel Amadio will be best option but keep in mind Kempe, Brodzinski, Ladue caphits are not included add them your at 4 million in cap space which is Doughtys raise . Since we are stuck with Brown and Gabby the 4th line players should not be making close to 2 million unless your Lewis who does lot more. We won't be able to add to our top 6 and with an extra 1.6 in cap space can possibly make a difference.

Hence Kopitar actually earned $3.2M last season.

Oh I'm very high on Clague and Moverare. I love both and feel like we got steals in both. Clague could end up being top 5 defenseman from his draft class. Kid has top 3 potential and think he will reach it. He will eventually give us a valuable trade asset in moving one of Martinez or Muzzin when he is ready. Moverare will be a very solid 4/5 defenseman and a stable dman in our top 6 down the line. For once we got lucky in our draft choices. Future is bright on D I never worry about our defense with all the pieces we have but offense is a little more concerning hopefully Vilardi reaches his potential and never looks back.

My point is simple as long as we commit to bringing in rookies every year cap space will never be that big of a issue.

Nope, I love Clifford. I don't think people actually hate him, I just think his problem is that there are roster redundancies. Replace the name Clifford with Nolan/Andreoff/etc. and the complaint is the same. Personally though I think Clifford is a rare one, not at all a liability, and obviously the team loves him. I think Nolan is more 'skilled' but a bigger liability defensively and on penalties. I think Andreoff has something to show but he's rarely shown it. Clifford gives you stability.

This is one of the problems Lombardi created when drafting guys of this type. Some team drafted guys with pure skill and can shoot, we drafted guys with grit who can't shoot and have character. And even when a guy had skill to create plays, he was demoted or benched because he missed a check or didn't get on the forcheck the right way.

Every team drafts players like Clifford and Nolan. Lombardi also drafted Toffoli, Pearson, and Kempe.

Exactly, redundant, we shouldn't be over paying for a redundant player.

Kevin Gravel not going to China.

Kempe hasn't done anything yet to be grouped with Toffoli and Pearson, who happen to be the only top six forwards Lombardi ever selected in his 11 drafts here.

The point is Kempe isn't a grinder. The other poster suggested the Kings only took high-character guys that grind in the draft under Lombardi. Simply not true.

Lombardi attempted to draft skilled forwards. It's much easier to hit on a role-playing bottom six than it is a top sixer.

Yup that's the sad truth plus Schenn and Simmonds they went for system players (heavy grind and character)

You don't think Mike Richards was a skilled player? :shakehead

Richards was ahead of Schenn and Simmonds in terms of skill when the trade was made.

Exactly, redundant, we shouldn't be over paying for a redundant player.

I think the Kings bottom 6 should have been youth with speed and creativity to start last season but Sutter isn't the coach for that. I think starting this season the exact same scenario, if the Kings go with the usual suspects in the bottom 6 expect low scoring boring hockey. As far as Clifford, absolutely agree he should not be on the roster, he brings nothing to the table and certainly does not bring what the Kings need. But, what NHL team wants to trade for Clifford? And given that the Kings struck out in free agency they have plenty of cap space so how much a player makes isn't even a consideration. If the Kings are out of the playoff race all these redundant players who cannot play offense and aren't putting the fear of God into the other team need to be dumped.

Exactly, redundant, we shouldn't be over paying for a redundant player.

But he's by far the best of the bunch as I've evidenced.

Are you going to ever present an original thought on this topic, or are you gonna let everyone else present thoughts and arguments for you? Because the "Clifford is bad" line of reasoning has been disproven, and it's not Clifford himself that's redundant as has also been shown.

If McDermid makes the team and plays and does what he did yesterday Kings can dump Andreoff, Nolan and Clifford. White challenges Kopitar, McD destroys him with a hit then pounds Pedan, who is a reputable tough guy. No Calgary game flashbacks here.

Honestly, the Kings are re-tooling. Let Nolan walk or trade him and deal Clifford. Keep Andreoff and McD.
