Toews, Crosby and Malkin have "earned" the right to walk away as well.

Again, he doesn't *have* to fight him, but he needs to do more than just bend over and take it: especially a guy that chirps as much as he does.

This doesn't mean that I approve of Clifford and Andreoff RE: Calgary, but I think its bordering on pathetic to hear Doughty say the team needs more grit and leadership. It's true, but he needs to look in the mirror.

Speaking of pathetic, Kings informed me today that full season seat memberships are available along with half, partial etc. Looks like the wait list waited to see what happened and waited themselves out the door.

P. Kane, Karlsson, + our Kopitar has taken huge hits over his career and done nothing. But these players know it is better to stay on the ice and let the Cliffords of the world take care of things. And if the big boys don't do their job, well find another one.

Kane, Karlsson, and Kopitar aren't saying the team needs more grit and leadership.

That reminds me, they have a state of the franchise event for season ticket holders. Guess they're trying to retain whoever hasn't jumped off of the sinking ship.

Corey Pronman has listed the Kings prospect pool at 17th in the NHL which is up from 29th.

His top 100:
#9 Vilardi
#46 Clague - described as top end talent
#74 Kempe

I guess Doughty should quit and let Muzzin take his position, so he can improve his fighting skills to make some folkies happy here. Leaders take charge in different aspects of the game. Doughty is a leader of our defense. Kopi leads our team and offense (which he need to rebound). Clifford/Andy/Nolan have to be leaders in protecting our players. I have no problem with Clifford: he has had plenty of bouts through his career. But Nolan leader ship role of protector of the team has decreased and Sutter was pissed off at him around the time of the Calgary incident about not being in practice. & questioned Nolan commitment to the team. If someone can't do their job, get a replacement. Its no different than any other job.

Why do people think Quick is tough? He only goes after an opposing forward when the ref is nearby, he's backed down from more than one goalie fight. He has a rep of being this feisty badass but there is zero evidence of that.

I love him as a goalie and I'm glad he's a chill dude, just not sure why people think he's some intense aggressive guy.

He's not. People seem to forget what a real intense aggressive goalie looks like. There's been a handful of times goalies have skated up to the center ice to have quick stay in net. As one poster said, maybe it's to keep them out of his crease so he can make his saves. But yeah, if he was as aggressive and intense as people make him out to be, then he'd have already been in his first fight. People acting like he's a tough guy haven't seen tough goalies imo.

Sorry boys but Doughty has earned the right to skate away. Is Erik Karlsson fighting anyone? No.

It was up to Clifford, Andreoff, or Nolan. None of them did anything.

40 year old Iginla had to step in and fight Engelland. Sad. Iggy showed more balls in 10-15 games with the Kings than this team showed all year.

Even sadder, and someone mentioned it earlier, was in that meaningless game at the end of year when the Kings played the Flames NO ONE did anything to Tkachuk. I know only Andreoff played in that game. I would be making Tkachuk pay every game until his career his over.

The value of having a guy like Lucic was overlooked this year. The duo of Nolan and Clifford seems to never get it done. Lombardi previously brought in Carcillo a few years back. He showed some balls in that Vancouver game when Kassian leveled Stoll and Sestito went after Doughty - Carcillo was the only one going crazy. It seems when the Kings bring in a third guy like Lucic or Carcillo, then Clifford and Nolan decide to wake up knowing their job is on the line.

You conveniently missed a big difference, Karlsson doesn't have an attitude like Doughty does. Doughty is a prolific trash talker, and he talks a big game. He should back it up sometimes instead of looking like a ***** all the time.

You can make the case for Kopitar, since he's a quiet dude.

But most importantly, In the real world, you talk and run your mouth a lot, someone's gonna come looking to get a clean shot at you, and if you can talk the talk, then you should walk the walk. If you can't stand up for yourself, maybe you should shut up.

I'd rather have a fighting superstar, than a quiet superstar. I miss the days where superstars not only could make the big plays, but they can also throw punches. Players like Getzlaf and Benn are very well respected for a reason.

First off, Nolan was hurt and not playing in the Calgary games. Still don't think he would of done anything but he gets a pass in regards to this incident.

You are correct: leaders take charge in different aspects of the game. Doughty could have taken charge in a different aspect than his normal "leadership by playing 25 minutes a game" and doing *anything* to a kid that continued to target him.

This isn't a case of receiving one bad hit: it was a systematic, continual "assault" with clear attempts to injure and it didn't even seem to **** Doughty off at all. For a team that looked to just be going through the motions last year, a little fire from one of the "leaders" on the team would of gone a long way. Doesn't have to be a fight but he could have run him through the boards at a minimum.

For the record, I didn't put Doughty through the wringer for the Calgary stuff back when it happened, but if he is sitting here now saying this team needs more leadership and grit, well, the players and fans of this team look to him for both and he failed to deliver in that moment.

If Kopitar can take criticism for "asking for help" in terms of scoring assistance, Doughty can take some for "asking for help" for leadership and someone to stick up for him in the face of a 19 year old kid who is not a good fighter.

You've said this more than once now; do you have an example?

Agree with this wholeheartedly. Doughty is a superstar like the others mentioned, but he WANTS to play with an edge, so he'll have to back it up from time to time. Tkachuk would possibly feed him his lunch, but he's not a 4th line plug, he's a good player, and roughly the same size. If there were ever a time I'd want Drew fighting, it would be his own battle here.

Not that I EVER want Drew fighting generally speaking and it obviously squarely puts the Flames at an advantage, AND not to mention it's not like Drew did something wrong, it was Tkachuk being a dick here, but regardless, if you're going to be an edgy player, back it up when the situation is right.

Still mad NO ONE fed him his lunch though, and that he basically got to spot-pick until he found a willing combatant.

When a leader decries that a team lacks something, he better be willing to try to provide it himself.

I don't know why you and others keep harping on the "Doughty needs to fight" red herring. Please point out anyone who said Doughty needs to fight? He should provide grit himself if he feels the team lacks it. Pretty simple. And that can be done without fighting.

He does by back it up, by playing 30 minutes a games and being the best player on our D + is a solid hitter. You want him scrum it up to take some silly penalties. Then Muzzin and Co. can let a crap load of goals in. Yeah, productive. That Rinaldo clip is what should of happen. Not Doughty going after some punk as kid trying to make a name for himself.

no. That seems to be your focus. Standing up for himself could have been accomplished with a bone jarring legal hit. Or getting into his face and jawing. Making sure every time he touched the puck, he paid for it.
NOne of which involves 'silly penalties" .
Look, it's history , and rehashing it won't change that. But I would hope going forward, that changes. But for me, I saw a direct line of that laissez -faire attitude and the Kings decline over the last 3 years.

From last night state of the franchise.
LA Kings reserve list depth chart, forwards.

I think Cammy and Gabby on the 1st line makes them a 1 line team of sorts. If I am the coach of the other team, I'm gunning for the Carter line. I think putting TT on the top line, would give the top 6 more balance. But I guess we'll find out...

Assume Brown opens as RW for Kopitar. Gaborik has to prove he can play 82 games.

Stevens 180 degree take from Sutter on Dustin Brown. Felt w better luck would have scored 20 last year, still thinks power forward

As expected, Gabby won't be ready for camp

Kings GM Rob Blake discloses Marian Gaborik had non-surgical procedure to repair ligament and tendon, reiterated unlikely for start of camp

No Slava

Dennis Bernstein‏ @DennisTFP 11h11 hours ago

Blake on Slava Voynov: "It's premature to put him on our depth chart. He has a year left on his KHL contract and several hurdles to clear"

And other notes was to look for more offense generated from behind the net and mobile d on 5 man rushes.

But wait a second. Has Rob Blake been following Gaborik on Instagram?

I hope Brown has a good season next year. I think he is the one player Sutter's departure might benefit the most.

lol Blake is clearly wrong here. Hey Blake, why don't you do your homework on Instagram. Gaborik is totally fine and will start the season. Didn't you see his photos with his girlfriend?

I knew that Blake would not be a good GM. He does not even bother reviewing the social media accounts of the players before making public statements.
