I don't watch the eastern conference at all. How would Marchessault fit on the kings? What would it take to snag him from vegas?

Blake has to be given time to fix this disaster that Lombardi left him.

An aging expensive roster with one playoff win in three years, arguably the worst farm system in the NHL, multiple unmovable long term contracts, dead cap space from Richards and likely Greene.

Looking at the projected roster and knowing there are probably no impact guys in the system for the next couple of years is depressing but not surprising, the mismanagement of this roster from June 2014 through this year's deadline easily rivals the McMaster and Beverly years.

Still amazes me that some on this board didn't want to make changes.

Every team in the league is going to want a 26 year old guy coming off a 30 goal season and is on a bargain contract.

Vegas is going to want draft picks or young (19-21) type prospects, and good ones at that, we don't have that to offer.

Do you honestly believe that Blake is going to just let it ride with youth until everyone on the current team has aged out or traded, sans Doughty?

I think the Kings will give it a go this year. Hope that Kopitar and Doughty return to being top 10 players, hope that Toffoli scores 30+, hope that Muzzin bounces back, hope that Quick becomes dominant again, hope that Brown and/or Gaborik can rediscover their games. But if they miss the playoffs again I think Doughty and Carter are moved, Brown is bought out and the Kings focus on trying to contend again in 3-4 years.

It's basically banking on bounce back seasons from Kopitar, Toffoli, Martinez and Muzzin. Dewey has to be Norris Dewey, and Gravel, Forbort and LaDue need to take steps forward. Oh, and Quick has to play 65+ games.

I think we are more likely to see brown on the first line and the 70s line together. Also, Lewis will be on the third line.

Also, I doubt Muzzin is on the first line. It doesn't make sense to move Forbort away from Doughty when he's the only guy he's played well with. Gravel will likely play with Muzzin for some experience on each pairing.

This looks more like a video game lineup based on players shooting ratings.

That cap space is gonna get used to fix at least one hole in the top 6. Whether it's a #1 left or right wing or a #2 center to move Carter up to the top line where he belongs-it's gonna be spent. Blake will spend that money to try to fix the team, I think this is where I put a number to declare how serious I am about my opinion or some sort of catch phrase like take it to the bank or lead pipe lock.

I hope Blake doesn't pull a Lombardi and waste his money on a bunch of average ufa's.

Blake has to keep the 1st, have a good draft, try to rid himself of 1-2 of the Kings logjam on bottom 6 and give kids like Auger, Mersch, Kempe, Brodzinski, LaDue, Gravel and MacDermid a shot.

Why even waste money getting a winger for Kopitar when you are stuck with Gaborik and Brown' contracts. I would only get a winger if Blake can rid himself of one of those two deals. Also, the talk of trading Muzzin or Martinez has to disappear for now, Kings D has take a major hit again whether you liked McNabb or Greene.

McNabb played 49 games and Greene 26 last season. Not integral pieces but I will miss McNabb's hitting threat and Greene's net front presence. I'm sure Blake is aware that the Kings can't have so soft of a defense next season.

Brown gets easier to move in another year.

How so?

I guess Yotes still have cap room to take him, with a sweetener.
A team needs the cap space to suck up that deal. Window is small and options are few.

Hopefully Brown gets his hands back so he can put in a few more of the bunnies he missed last year.

EDIT: couldn't get the format right.

18-19: $1.958M
19-20: $1.958M
20-21: $3.458M
21-22: $3.458M
22-23: $1.583M
23-24: $1.583M
24-25: $1.583M
25-26: $1.583M

Yikes, hopefully Quick holds together, and does not need to get bought out.

I think by "move" they may mean buyout, with each passing year a buyout becomes more palatable.

With the cap recapture rules in the news lately it occurred to me that IIRC Carter and Quick are the only Kings left where those rules are applicable. Thinking of the Hossa situation, if/when Gaborik retires.

Well that's basically the line up from last season and look how well they did. Blake has to add a top six player, don't know how but he has got to have a planned. The good thing about Blake is that he has more brain than heart unlike DL.

DL has won two Cups as a GM.

Until proven otherwise, Lombardi has more heart and brains than Rob Blake with the last three years not changing any of that.

With the lineup the Mayor provides, I doubt we make the playoffs. Essentially, everything would have to go perfect for us to squeeze in, i.e., Quick healthy; Doughty with Norris year; Kopitar having a major bounce back year (70+pts), Gaborik coming back healthy and netting 15-20 goals; Toffoli being a 30 goal scorer; Pearson matching last year's numbers; and Carter being Carter.

Kings will have roughly $4-5 million after signing their RFA's and a backup goalie. Blake won't go into the season with that much cap space.
