If the Devils are really sold on Makar, then that leaves Nico/Nolan at #3

Dallas could really use Staal

I'm scared, guys.

You forgot Hugh Jessiman in '03, the richest talent ever available in history of the NHL.

Wasn't he picked in the top 10?

I expect it to turn out that way.

Why no to Makar?

For me, I'm unconvinced if he can translate production in the NCAA from the AJHL, but his repertoire is phenomenal. His skating is dynamic and explosive!! Think he is risky in the top 10, but he has the tools.

Maybe I'm wishcasting, but when you've signed Pionk, traded for DeAngelo, and traded Stepan, I don't see Makar being the target.

I don't follow these drafts that closely, but isn't this draft considered deep but not elite at the top?

Wouldn't we best off grabbing 2 first rounders rather than packing into the 3/4/5 spot? (I'm doubting Philly or NJ trades them anything)

To be fair Manny Malhotra has played almost 1000 nhl games
Montoya still a backup
Sundstrom was not a complete dog pile
That Leetch guy was pretty good.

I say the odds are in our favor to hit a home run

have a bad feeling that glass won't be there at 7 but still would hate to give up 21 to jump up a few spots for a guy that might be there at 7 anyway. rather 'settle' for petterson at 7 if glass is gone and then hope that someone falls to 21. we have too many needs in our system to not hope to add 2 players

Patrick and Hischier could step in right away in a sheltered role.

Vilardi could possibly step in next year. He has the size and skill, just not the skating.

Glass and Petersson I see being at least 1 year away. Both need to bulk up.

Mittelstadt and Necas are probably 2 years away.

Thanks! Given our situation I feel like they might try to snag someone who can step right in.

I want to see the Rangers finally have a young superstar. What's it been, like 30 years? Hopefully they can hit the jackpot like the Yankees did with Judge.

I somewhat agree, by I also expect the Rangers to trade down from 21 and add a 2nd.

last one is not a great one though.

Elite skills are elite skills no matter the league.

The point is, how can you know for sure? All the players drafted high out of terrible leagues who busted were players that teams thought had elite skills. To begin with, anyone can bust, but when you don't see a player against good competition for more than a few games prior to the draft? You know even less.

We're certainly overdue to pick a winner from the first round.

Also, sorry if this was already posted. Interesting....

You can question whether or not he has enough upstairs to be able to use those skills at a higher level, sure.

But elite skills are elite skills no matter the level. The gap will close as he moves up, but its not like its going to make his skill set less impressive. Less impactful? Maybe, but thats the risk with any player you draft (yes I'm aware that he has more risk attached to him because of where he's playing.)

From what I've seen, I think he'll be more than fine. I think the Rangers are definitely going C here so its really a moot point.
