occam's razor here is he asked to go back to Sweden for whatever reason and they asked him to wait till post TDL given the sample size of 0 times I can recall this happening to any foreign prospect ever

you guys are ridiculous. RAWRRRRR ANGER AT MANAGEMENT ID MAKE A BETTER GM RAWWWRRRR

You don' think it would be silly to send a guy to his SHL team after camp, then after the WJC stick him in Hartford for a couple weeks, then maybe send him back to the SHL? It's not about "being a better GM" or anything, it's just about trying to understand the logic behind jerking a kid around like that.

Others have posited a theory that the Rangers wanted him to rehab here, which seems like it could be plausible. Your post is just mocking...someone. What's the point?

Didn’t Leslie update her original tweet about the Rangers not making a decision on this?

Because despite the complete lack of historical precedence (prospects have been injured in different leagues before! sometimes severely), the knee jerk reaction was/is OMG THEYRE SO DUM THIS IS HOW U RUIN PPL like Gorton woke up in the morning and went "hmmm how can we best ruin this guy. oh, i know"

they, as a New York team, wanted to monitor his shoulder by... having him... play? in Hartford?

what part of the org jerks people around? when? wasn't the narrative that NY is the country club? they gave hugely long leashes to Avery, Barnaby, Billy freaking Tibbets.

again, the simple answer is he wants to go home... because the other possibilitys logical conclusion is they are kind of evil and malicious.

Glad to see we're continuing our consistent approach to turning nearly every news item related to Lias Andersson into a ____ show.
It is honestly ridiculous. How the hell do some of these people get through real life conversations without being walked away from or mocked is beyond me

I don't even know what you're talking about in half of this post, so, ok, sure.

Brooks confirmed today what many of us have been saying. We drafted based on need instead of elite skill at 7 which is a cardinal sin and sure enough it blew up in our face. We needed a 3c we drafted a 3c and he to make it worse he wasn’t ready. Not even close.

We left a top line talent on the board who is now considered a top 5 prospect in the world so we could try and bandage this mess of a team. This is a horrible job by Gorton.

Look I like Lias as a player. He’s gritty has great hands in close and a very strong shot. Good vision. But he skates like Jarkko Immonen and doesn’t have the size to get away with it. All we can do is hope he improves on this weakness and can slot in behind chytil and whoever else maybe Zibanejad long term.

But let’s stop pretending we drafted the right guy.

Don’t like Swedes in general? I work for a Swedish company some of my best friends are Swedish lol.

I literally just posted in the Zibanejad thread how much I like him.

Let’s see who I didn’t like Lindberg well he stunk and continues to stink

Lundqvist when he was playing like garbage for a calendar year I called him out for it? Yeah I did I also have repeatedly said how good he’s been since making adjustments.

How bout we just stick to what’s very clear in front of everyone not wearing rose colored glasses. We went for immediate need a huge no no and failed.

I saw a tweet today which was the best one sentence evaluation of our first round i've seen.
Second part of this.

Edit: There's definitely a third option here too, that NYR felt that Lias was truly BPA. If that's the case then i don't agree with it (i definitely had Brännström, Liljegren and Vilardi ahead) but it is what it is, gotta trust your scouting, hope they got it right.

That’s not what he said. It’s him posturing:

Now one has to hope that the Blueshirts didn’t draft him based on immediate need rather than selecting a player with a higher home-run upside such as world junior championship MVP Casey Mittlestadt, who went next to Buffalo, because he was perceived as further away from making it to the NHL.

And...he’s literally just using talking points from this board again. He says this shit while ignoring Lias’ success in the SHL, and if anyone is seriously using a 5 game sample of AHL games after immediately coming off a grade-2 shoulder spain, then that’s your own problem for being silly.

It’s amazing how there’s a spin being put on the team drafting a kid who they thought could immediately step in at 18 and play C in the NHL. Lias is having a good D+1 year.

If anything, that article is an indictment on Gorton for not doing more to fill in depth throughout the organization this offseason, but there was just nothing there.

Yup, Lias D+1 year is definitely comparable to Mittelstadts, but because Mittelstadt is really flashy he gets hyped up while Lias gets bashed down for no apparent reason other then "optics" (he looks slow, he looks like he's not skilled yada yada bullshit).

Pet peeve: He's 19.

Also re the bolded: Once again, LB comes so close and just can't put it together. He's almost there.

He doesn’t skate well at all doesn’t have great size. Is there anyone hear that thinks he’s got first line upside?

Yes or no

Is there anyone here that really thinks mittelstadt isn’t a top end type player?

Yes or no

There is no way he was bpa.

If you watch Lias and say his upside is a first liner you are lying to yourself.

I think Lias has first line upside, he's a really smart player and underrated skill, very good shot too.

I think Mittelstadt has high end skill but he's not translating it into points yet and that worries me.

There's also no way Mittelstadt was BPA in my book.

22 in 26 as a true freshman is more impressive than you're giving it credit for.

Just like 14 in 22 at the SHL level is more impressive than Kovy is giving LA for.

Find the middle.

Woops, that was a typo by me. I’ll also point out that Middelatadt is a month younger, so the age difference between them is negligible to me.

Re: the bold, yep. I like Gorton, and I’ll remain adamant that this team would’ve competed with a new coach and a more reliable bottom-6 C. I’m cool with the rebuild too, but I hate the narrative that this team wasn’t talented (not from you obviously). Oh well

Without question. Both of these guys are "older" draft picks.
