I'm going to trust Gettleman/Mara/Tisch here. I'd rather go with Wilks, a defensive mind and a hard@$#% that the players will respect. But we'll see. Remember, there are no guarantees McDaniels or Patricia do well away from Belichik.

Hopefully it will be a great sign, but it should be said that he was their 2nd choice. John Mara should look at the mirror as the reason that the New York Football Giants got snubbed by Patricia for the freaking Detroit Lions. Unbelivable!

Nine wins with the Browns is a minor miracle. His positives is he gets the most out of his quarterbacks. I'm not sold on the hire but we'll see.

I'd argue his stint with the Browns was phenomenal when you compare it to other recent Browns coaches.

I have zero opinion of this hire, and my initial reaction seeing he won 9 games in 2 years with the Browns was also, "wow." However I then read that the Browns were 10-22 the two years prior to Shurmur (under Mangini) and 11-21 the two years after Shurmur (Chudzinski and Pettine). So his performance with the team wasn't really any different than "Mangenius," Chud or Pettine. Of course that means nothing, but it is context.

Recency bias. Browns went 1-31 the last 2 years so any coach that won more games than that with the Browns a few years ago must be good.

I think it's more that judging a coach by what happens in Cleveland is ignoring the fact even Bill Belichick struggled to make that team relevant. Disclaimer: Not comparing Pat Shurmur to Bill Belichick. Simply stating that failing as Head Coach of the Cleveland Browns is hardly an unique experience or a fatal flaw.

Not convinced of the hiring until I see what happens with Spags and the QB situation. Don't want Chase Keenum anywhere near the Giants next year, and I really believe it's time for some whole sale changes with the defensive coaches. Blame McAdoo all you want but it also goes against Spags that nearly all the CB's got suspended during the season and they seemingly lost control over that unit.

Let's see what kind of coaching staff Shurmur can put together and whether the Giants try and do something stupid like not drafting a QB with their 1st pick.

There's pretty much zero chance of Keenum coming here. Eli is gonna have 12mil in dead cap here. So if he's not the QB it'll either be the #2 pick or a cheap journeyman or both. Keenum will most likely be looking for the max guarantee he can get since his career has been so ordinary until this season.

Morton is gonzo. lol

Great another OC, it just fills my heart with hope.

They could be going after Deflippio from Philly if he doesn't get a head coaching gig. You got to think they think they can improve the position after Morton showed a little bit of hope last year.

They could have him as a June 1 cut and have a 12M dead money hit spread over two years ($6M per).

So what's the consensus on who the G-Men pick?

I am not embedded in the nuances of football like I am with hockey and baseball.
