Why doesn't anyone have Koivula in their top6? The guy is amazing. No way a guy like Vesalainen is a better scorer than him at this point. Vesalainen should be used as a 3rd or 4th liner with some energy IMO.

To me it seems like the Finns should be able to ice three solid line combinations. Reuniting the Vesalainen-Rasanen-Tolvanen line that was quite successful at the u18s last year seems like a no brainer, then form two more lines from Kuokkanen, Natttinen, Palmu, Borgstrom, Koivula and Luoto/Bjorkquist/Ruotsalainen.

The team will likely have three scoring lines and one grinder line, it doesn't really matter if it's 3rd line on paper, he will have good linemates no matter what.

Kuokkanen-Nättinen-Palmu
Vesalainen/Koivula-Räsänen-Tolvanen
Luoto-Borgström-Koivula/Vesalainen
Ruotsalainen-Mattila-Björkqvist

Ah, fair enough. Was super impressed by him at the 4 nations tourney and was a fan even before that. Could see him being one of the top producing players at the WJC.

Who is expected to be Finland's starter? Or is it pretty wide open still?
Vehviläinen probably, although I personally don't have too much trust on him. Seems to be a bit weak mentally, which is worrying. It would be nice if they gave Kaarlehto a chance, he has been impressive this season.

Sorry, I've been watching a lot of Alex Jones lately. Still can't help but feel neither side is benefitting by keeping Pulju benched.

Only thing I can think of is language, maybe they feel biggest knock on Jesse is English skills, but being taught now and making good progress - disinclined to rip & replace and ship him off to California?

Same here. I got zero trust on Vehviläinen.

Does anyone know if the Canada-Finland practice game tonight is televised in Finland?

We feel more comfortable with Pulju around the Oilers team in Edmonton.

Edmonton has cold, dark winters like Pulju is used to. Sending him to California all alone would be a massive culture shock.

I expect Vehviläinen to be better than last year. I do doubt though that he'd be a goalie who can win games all by himself, but with improved defense, he could still end up looking okay.

All he needs to do is not let in any stinkers, unlike last year. Just catch everything any normal goalie is supposed to catch. And if the defense handles the rest, there's little need for a goalie to stand on his head.

Winters in Lapland might be long, for a while dark, cold but I doubt Edmonton is very much of a travel resort on the other side of the christmas card. It would explain many things if the Oilers management staff is familiar with some 17th century land-tied logic with their approach but California's weather is more near to Finnish summer without rains than Edmonton's I suppose.

Personally I do not believe language has about any effect on whether someone plays or not. That is surface, low-level is the key.

For Finnish then playbook is what matters. The Leading One was on trail in that at least the media package given out by Rautakorpi would not stand out against reason, being a potential treason. Let the play show we say.

Well this bloke's never been to Lapland.

It's interesting seeing the C go to a player who's not of the main age class. That hasn't happened in a while. Then again, Juolevi is perhaps this team's most profilic player overall.

But overall the selection of letters shouldn't surprise anyone.

The previous one in Finland was Mikko Koivu in 2002.

My impression of him is that he cracks under pressure when it matters. Not a championship goalie but anything can happen. Hopefully this time it goes better.

We don't want him to be in a place where he can have pool party. Prefer frozen pools.

Well... lets say he is not off to a good start, 3 goals allowed on 8 shots, in the first period against Canada, and not very impressive goals neither...

Hopefully those Vehviläinen believers finally saw how bad he is.
Luukkonen should be in this team instead of sieve Vehviläinen who can't catch pucks and meltdown under the pressure.

And defense should be this teams strength.
Yeah maybe in your dreams but not in the tournament

Is there any chance Finland could make an emergency call to Nashville and get Juuse Saros between the pipes. Well, stranger things have happened. LOL
