This should be a bannable comment.

You do that, and the very next thing you start ******* about is the massive gap in our top6. Congratulations, you've traded today's problem for tonorrows. Complete nonstarter.

Draft and free agency are the only paths available.

Then we're probably not competing. Draft is gonna take 4 years or so to be relevant to the holes we're drafting them for, and UFA isn't giving us what we need either, both because those players are rare to find and we have no space to offer what they'd demand.

I mean, I think you're probably on the same page as the GM, but we're talking about having one of the best young forward corps in the league and a defense that is questionable if it could excel in the AHL. If you're not willing to balance talent between them, we can just do this dance again next year and lose another year of our current prime age pieces.

Edit: I see it's already been found so I'll just casually mention that I made it. Props to me!

Props to you indeed! That thing is awesome! Still makes me laugh!:handclap:

http://www.thehockeynews.com/news/article/why-nolan-patrick-is-no-longer-the-no-1-draft-prospect

Nolan Patrick's ongoing injury woes during his draft year make him a slightly riskier pick compared to our new No. 1 prospect for the 2017 draft.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So what do you do if you have the first pick overall this summer? Patrick’s two-way game and 6-foot-3 frame seemed to make him a safe top pick before the injuries, but Hischier’s hockey IQ and elite offensive skills make him look like another Jonathan Drouin. For me, it’s Hischier right now – and he certainly had to earn the distinction.

It's not really surprising to me given all the games that Patrick has missed this season due to injury.

Patrick is a fine No.1 pick, but I doubt he'll be the best player in this draft class when it's said and done.

I'm trying to figure out how Cody Glass isn't a concencus top 5 pick. So far I got nothing...6-2 RH center who plays hard, can skate and has a lot of skill who put up 90+ points in the WHL. There's a lot to like there, guys like that are going to be very good picks in the top 10.

Top-10, sure. Top-5, I'm still not there quite yet.

While he is a great all around player, I still don't see him possessing the skill that some of the other top guys have. He still finds a way to rack up the points though, so definitely an intriguing option.

If Thomas is on the board early 2nd, we have to take him.

Kid's a gamer. I think he's a considerably better prospect than Pu, but I'd honestly love to have both

he's not going to be there for us, won't make it to the 2nd round.

this Cale Makar kid playing in the Alberta junior league is rising fast and looking at his highlight videos I see why, going the US college route, UMass Amherst.

look at 3:45

If we are picking around 7 I'd be ecstatic to walk away with Liljegren, Tippett or Vilardi. Have to think at least one of them will fall to 7. I know we need D but you can't force a pick due to need, it's always BPA. Besides I would prefer to address the D through free agency and trades over the draft mainly for two reasons. Reason one is because we don't have time to wait for a first round D man this year to help the blue line. There are no Seth Jones, Ekblad,Hanifin type dmen in this draft. I don't think a single one will be in the NHL right after being drafted. And the second reason is when you acquire a dman through trade or free agency you are getting a sure fire thing. There is no "bust" factor to take into account since you are acquiring NHL dmen.

Dude Makar looks awesome, but I have to say, props to whomever made the video - using Judas Priest's "Blood Red Skies" for the music is obscure and inspired! :yo::yo::yo:

This years draft is weak and a complete crap shoot from 1 - 217. I wont be surprised if they trade away a first round pick and player(s) for help on the back end.

What idiot GM do you think is going to pay a worthwhile defender for a first rounder in a weak draft?

http://buffalohockeycentral.com/2017/04/05/report-draft-lottery-date-announced/

Senior hockey reporter for TSN, Frank Seravalli reports that the 2017 NHL Draft Lottery will take place the night of Saturday, April 29.

Of course, the odds are still to be determined as the regular season is still going on. As of right now, the Sabres sit 25th overall in the league with 76 points. With that and the fact that Las Vegas will have the same chances as the third-worst team, the Sabres have a 6.7 percent chance at obtaining the No. 1 overall pick.

Here are the top percentages as of Wednesday, April 5:

Colorado 17.9%
Arizona 12.1%
Vancouver 10.3%
Las Vegas 10.3%
New Jersey 8.5%
Detroit 7.6%
Buffalo 6.7%
Dallas 5.8%
Florida 5.4%
Winnipeg 4.5%

The Sabres could finish as low as the 6th worst and as high as the 9th worst, a variation from 5.4% to 7.6%.

Martin Necas reminds me of a Pastrnak type of pick, If he and Owen Tippett are both playing in the OHL I would wager he'd be ranked ahead of Owen right now. He's got a pretty impressive offensive skill set to him.

I think there are very good players into the 2nd. The only thing wrong with this draft is the top, which is pretty weak. I think the 2nd tier is quite a bit bette than last year, not as good as 2015, and about on par with 2014. The 3rd tier it good as well. But it gets pretty thin after that. This would be a good year to have a stockpile of picks between 5-45.
