Seeing as he's on their top pairing and is playing 20:46 per game, there's no reason to believe they want to get rid of MacDonald or have any plans for him to be anywhere other than the top pairing again next year.
More like 27-15-5, need to adjust for regular season sweep by devils.~27-19-5 for 92 points will 'probably' put them in the playoffs from here on out.
After that 5 game streak they are realistically about 50:50 to make the play-offs right now.
Would be nice to finish off 2017 ~4-2-1 or so (which is very do-able considering the schedule) and go into new year with a ~17-13-8 record and ~42 points with a ~.553 pt %. That would be 91 point pace and keep them *just* about on pace for the final WC spot.
Another writers credibility bites the dust. He's too obsessed with stats.
"part of the middle six solution"
"clearly deserves his role on this team"
"slowly but surely a competent PHI middle six is emerging"
Ohh yeah? Think that has something to do with Voracek making us a team with more than one line? Nah, its definitely Filppula.
Then he praises Weal and Filppula again... but Konecny "needs to get going"...
Hey, maybe giving him 10:23 per game this month isn't the best way to "get him going". Meanwhile, over the same time period, Filppula gets 18:41 per game with far better players. Look at how Raffl improved when getting more time and with better players. Must be a coincidence.
Yep.
The scheme is well executed, they play great defense and protect an average goalie - imagine how Elloitt would be exposed in a wide open, less disciplined scheme.
Just need to add forward talent that can score. And we have that in droves, from the AHL to juniors/SHL/college. We don't need to add a bunch of superstars, just upgrade 3-4 forward spots and this becomes an above average offense.
I have a dream that someday Flyer fans will see 12 forwards on the ice who are legitimate NHL players . . .
What an ignorant post. Typical.Seeing as he's on their top pairing and is playing 20:46 per game, there's no reason to believe they want to get rid of MacDonald or have any plans for him to be anywhere other than the top pairing again next year.
Oh boy, looks like somebodies triggered. What an ignorant post. Typical.

They'd also be more effective pushing if they had more forwards that could backcheck effectively and win battles along the boards when the other team is pressing during the 3rd period. That's why players like Ghost, Sanheim, Konecny, Leier and Weal are often benched with a lead - because they struggle when the opposing offense starts gambling and forechecking aggressively. Smaller players are more effective early in the game and when you're behind, but when they get pressed they often lose puck possession - and when the other team is behind in the 3rd period they start gambling and sending extra players on the forecheck.
This is a personnel problem as much as scheme, I think they'll look a lot better with a stronger, healthy Patrick and players like Lindblom, Vorobyev, MV and NAK, as well as Morin and Myers on defense next year. You don't need monsters, Raffl is effective at 6'0 200, but you do need full sized players.
Now the one thing I agree is when they go into a shell the last few minutes and don't aggressively challenge the D-men at the point, that's just waiting for disaster to happen - but when they force turnovers they also have to score on some of those breakaways and ice games with a lead. Need that killer instinct.
