I don't think Eberle is a bad player but I don't think he fixes a thing for the Isles.

They're desperately trying to upgrade the talent level in an attempt to retain Tavares. Personally if I was him, I'd be leaving as that org is a mess - but I get the attraction of staying in one place.

He was fantastic this year. He was one of the main reasons they made the playoffs. Excellent playmaker and an absolute puck hound.

Nobody is denying that he's a legit talent and a very good player. His history of being focused more on himself than on the team, and being unreliable over anything other than short periods of time are what make it ridiculous for him to ask for that kind of contract. 10 years ago he played two consecutive seasons for the Predators. That's his record. Then he left. Then he came back. Played a handful of games, then he left again. Then he came back. His best seasons are 58 and 54 points.

Now he's asking for the kind of money and term that is generally only given to guys who produce at an elite level.

Pick him up at the deadline for a Cup Run? Sure. Pick him up for a contract that likely takes him a year or two past his prime, at $7M per year? That's ****ing nuts, whether we have the space or not. And what happens if we have a big playoff disappointment and the media is on him a little bit, and then he's not happy and wants a trade... and no one wants his remaining 5yr 7M BS?

Pass. Big pass. Our formula for winning has worked just fine without that type of player. No need to start taking that kind of risk now.

Need to keep or replace the character guys who went back to back.

Kovalchuk, galchenyuk, radulov and all the other shiny baubbles have never won anything for a reason.

This team went back to back I'd give anyone who wants a chance a threepeat the opportunity. At the trade deadline, if things aren't good re-evaluate.

Like those born losers Schultz and Kessel eh? ;)

Half of his goals seem to be one timers from the right circle. I think I'd have him on RW here.

I dunno. He seems to have played mostly on the left in MTL and we're pretty jammed on RW haha. But as long as we played him with Geno across from a solid complementary player, I'm sure good things would happen.

People said the same thing about Schultz and Kessel.

Apparently, they want to shed a lot of salary. They are starting to become the Marlins of MLB. Sign a bunch of guys one year, sell off players the next.

I don't know what that franchise is doing. But it is never good to be compared to a team owned by Jeffrey Loria.

So it's not like he's been sucking defensively? I dunno. He looks like a real great chance to get the real sort of dman for not much (cap hit minor issue)... I still feel suspicious.

I wouldn't have grouped Galy in with Kovulchump and Radulaugh, but Schultz and Kessel never left to play in another league when they didn't get what they wanted or when things were tough. It's a bad comparison. Both of those guys quit on their teams, period.

Again no denying the talent. It's about stability and making sure you got guys who are worth every penny and who are going to stick around for a while without drawing attention to their themselves and their high maintenance needs.

So I guess Schmidt, Miller, Merrill, Theodore, McNabb and Reinhart are all off the table.

I'd take Emelin at half price though. Emelin at 2.05m for Sundqvist? Or maybe just try the ufa route.

They'll keep Emelin and fish for desperate suckers at the deadline imo. They'll almost certainly keep salary cap retention until then...

... and will ask for picks.

well this is all turning into a bit of a disappointment... the majority of picks were leaked before the event and then barely any trades

hope things spice up at the draft

It's gonna be hard to keep all 12. They have to at least trade 4 and nobody wants Sbisa and Stoner. Garrison and Engelland won't be traded because they were part of the reveil. So that leaves Emelin and Methot (Stoner and Sbisa too but again nobody wants them). I'm certain Emelin is getting traded.

I didn't really concentrate on what was being said on the radio (TSN690) but Methot has a clause in his contract which means he has to approve any trade. Montreal was on his no no list.

Put like that, I find your logic rather convincing.

Come to think of it... I don't see how he keeps all the young players.

They cannot... but i think after the social media flamestorm from the picks they might try to hold on a bit linger before moving too many pieces

So no Schmidt AND Haula? Ohwell, onto other options like Thornton, Hanzal, Duchene, etc. Can't be mad, Caps got screwed losing Schmidt and still stuck with Orpik. Friedman think Thornton and Marleau are going to Toronto though.
