Will Blake blink first?

Seems like Kovalchuk is the preference but if he drags his feet, Blake could miss out on other targets.

The only thing we know for sure is that BigKing is constantly refreshing this site instead of working.
I hate Kovalchuk for doing this in 2010 and now...again!

Doesn't mean he can't get better at it though. Kempe will never be a >55% guy I would bet but he could get to 45-47% which is adequate. Lots of examples of guys better themselves at things.

Andre Drummond was a career 38-39% free throw shooter before this past season. He was at 60% this season because he worked on it. Same with DeAndre Jordan. Career <45% guy who shot 58% this year. Shaq didn't improve because he didn't give a ****.

Faceoffs are a teachable skill. Some obviously will get better at it than others but he can and will improve. How much, who knows.

Of course it is teachable, but I'm saying its not just a "teach it and 50% is right around the corner" type of thing. If things were this easy, the Kings should hire goal scoring teachers.

His base line is what we just saw this past season, and it is bad. Hopefully he can surprise and take a big leap in this regard but he's not 18 years old.

The 9 previous trades Lisa Dillman is referencing that Blake has pulled off...

Ben Bishop's UFA rights for a 4th rounder
Mike Cammalleri for Jussi Jokinen
Torrey Mitchell for a 4th rounder
Nic Dowd for Jordan Subban
Jeff Zatkoff to Columbus for future considerations
Zac Leslie to Vegas for future considerations
Marian Gaborik and Nick Shore for Dion Phaneuf and Nate Thompson
Darcy Kuemper for Tobias Rieder and Scott Wedgewood
Peter Budaj for Andy Andreoff

I think a lot of the wife stuff is bogus. This is 2010 all over again. Back then, Kovi’s wife loved LA and wanted to live here yadda yadda.

I’ll believe it when I see it. In 2010, Kovalchuk used LA as a bargaining chip against New Jersey. He never had any intention of coming here back then. I don’t think he does now.
Friends, family and lifestyle cann all have a big impact on where players choose to sign. It influences some more than others of course.

Blake will probably pull a deal off out of left field that no one saw coming. Who knows.

Just hoping tonight isn’t a dud and we get some deals. Last year’s draft, there was a bunch of smoke leading up to it up as the 1st round unfolded, not much happened.

Of the 102 players that took at least 680 faceoffs this year, Kempe was 102nd, and the only one below 40%. McDavid and Eichel were at 41%. MacKinnon was at 42. Malkin 44. He's not offsetting those numbers by supplying the same offense as those guys though.

Not that he can't get better, but he's got a ways to go. Both in the dot and offensively. We know the 2nd half fall he had on offense. From his last goal on Feb 7th to the end of the season, he took the 4th most faceoffs on the team, and finished at 37%, which is less than his full season average. It was 36.7 in the playoffs.

Huge deals!!!

I think he trades the pick for immediate help if 1 of the player's they're scouting at #20 isn't available.
I don't think so unless it's a perfect player. He saw first hand how that burned Lombardi. Under 26 year old proven player under contract for 3+ years or else forget it.

Not the first season, especially with them as a bubble playoff team but not really a contender.

This summer is a different story though,

Agree there. The first season it made sense to get a feel for the team and to have guys prove themselves, some of whom did, and others who faltered. I'd say he has a better idea now on what to expect with the team he has, and it looks like they're going to address some of the team's problems this off-season.

Not sure exactly what others were expecting out of him in his first year. Maybe he should've traded Anze Kopitar for Ryan Johansen?

Besides getting rid of the Gaborik contract (which was pretty significant), were you expecting him to trade Kopitar or Doughty or Carter?

Of course not. The issue is that the original tweet seems to imply that since he has basically tinkered with the last bench spot on his fantasy football team multiple times, his next trade will be a real whopper.

His next trade may indeed be a whopper but mentioning nine trades that contains only one "big" one is misleading.

He's definitely not Ron Francis, however.

I'd say he's done well in trimming the fat on this team. A lot of dead weight has been shaved off, and it gave guys like Kempe and Iafallo more of an opportunity. I don't think he wanted to rush into making any regrettable decisions. Clearly he's not a GM at the level of a Steve Yzerman quite yet, but he's not sitting on his hands either.

I think from the get go one of the prime areas he wanted to address was stockpiling more prospects, and he has done so his first year in. I also wouldn't consider the offseason a failure if he fails to land John Tavares.

I'm not saying he's done a bad job, just saying the tweet blows his record out of proportion.

Love the Gaborik trade. Trading Bishop's rights is good but also a no-brainer. The minor Andreoff deal is cool but not a big deal. I liked the Reider move as it was pretty low risk. Everything is small potatoes though except for Dion: full marks to Blake for taking advantage of Ottawa. Blake should be calling Dorion first thing every morning just to check in.

Not a fan of the Mitchell deal. Negated the good move by Dean to actually get something for Dwight King but it obviously isn't the end of the world. I'm also not going to call the off-season a failure if they fail to get Tavares if he goes to market, unless it comes out that he was unwilling to go the distance to get him and loses out solely on that basis.

He starts to really be judged starting today. This is entirely his draft and his off-season. I'm hoping it starts off well.
